I know that diversity has been a big topic of conversation ever since the early 1990s when research supported the demographics that by the year 2000, 85% of the entering workforce would be female, African-American, Asian-American, Latino, or new immigrants. Even though I am no longer an official, card-carrying member of the corporate workforce, I remain close to it through my executive wife. A sitemap plays an important role, not just for your visitors, but also for the search engines. I would recommend a good site map for this reason.
Naming your pages...
It is really important that the Home page of your site is named "index htm" or "index HTML", this is the page that is shown to your visitors when they type you address into the search engines to find you. If it’s not there then your visitors won’t be able to get to your site. You can name the other pages anything you like.
You have designed your site but how do you get it onto the web server?
You need to FTP (file transfer protocol) it up to your web space. With some hosts you can just upload using their system with others unfortunately you have to FTP. If you have done everything right and put the files in the right directory you should be able to find your site on the Internet. Go to your browser, type in the domain name or website name and you should be taken directly to the home page we named index.htm Now go through your site yourself, test all the links using the navigation bar or buttons. You will now be seeing the site as it will appear to your visitors. If you get an error page or page not found, (404 page.) then you need to correct that bit of the site. If all you get is a 404 site not found message then you have uploaded your site to the wrong place on the server. You need to start again!
