Budgeting For Your Success
Just one of the advantages of starting a home based business is that it usually cost less than starting a business that requires office space or other facilities. Most people are already paying for a home or apartment anyway, so starting a business from that location entails very little extra overhead.Aside from eliminating the need to pay for office space, warehouse space, a restaurant, storefront, etc., the average home business also typically requires a much smaller starting investment. This is especially true of network marketing, where most business opportunities cost under $1,000 to get started in, though some network marketing opportunities do cost more. Some home business opportunities involve an initial cost well under $100, and may even advertise “free” signup.Unfortunately, the lure of such low entry costs often causes people to overlook the bigger, long term picture. This short article will cover three areas regarding budgeting that many people commonly overlook:1) Make sure that you understand the total direct startup cost. “Direct” is defined here as what you’ll pay to the company you are signing up with.2) Learn and develop a realistic budget for what your indirect and ongoing monthly costs will be. These include such things as setting up a home office if you don’t already have one, phone costs, additional training and seminars, travel, leads, advertising, etc.3) You MUST reinvest back into your business in order for it to grow! longest. The SEO community seems to have a Survivor mentality rather than an Apprentice mentality. Many claim moral superiority in their own tactics while working hard to discredit or badmouthing anybody that does things differently. This is How Autoresonders Can Put Your Business On Autopilot I'm tired of the arrogance within the SEO community, specifically with those that claim themselves to be the keepers of all true and correct SEO knowledge. It's pitiful, undignified, disheartening, and annoying, and I've had enough!Owning your own online business is a lot of work. Don't let anyone tell you that it's not.Daily tasks can include reading emails, handling orders, advertising, promotion and the list goes on. Very often at the end of the day you could have just as many projects as you started out with and quite possibly the list grew in the process.Typically, on a day to day basis, many business owners end up putting most of their time and efforts into performing these mundane, every day tasks leaving little or no time for the things that can help them grow their business such as marketing or promotion.Of course, growing your business is a big part of how you acquire customers and make sales; but how can you focus on marketing and sales if you're constantly tied up with the daily tasks that consume so much of your time? The key is automation. Particularly if you promote electronic products, however automation is important for any type of products you market. It automates such routine tasks of responding to emails and customer orders allowing you to focus on the things that help bring in customers and make sales. Here are just a few of the benefits :- Customer questions can be instantly responded to creating satisfied customers who will be impressed with your fast, professional service.- Automated follow-up e-mails will allow you to keep in contact with our customers allowing you to notify them of other products you sell which can boost your revenue.- Autom Regular readers of my blog know that I am an avid watcher of the Apprentice. I like that show specifically because I like to see how the tasks are performed each week. From a business standpoint I like to see what the teams do to succeed; from generating the idea all the way to execution and the personality issues in between. Unlike other reality shows, like Survivor, where outwitting your opponents is first and foremost, even to the point of being dishonest in your relationships, is just part of the game, the Apprentices is more about business acumen. Those candidates that go on and act as if it is a game like Survivor never become Trump's Apprentice. Those that learn how to work with personalities they may conflict or disagree with often last the longest. The SEO community seems to have a Survivor mentality rather than an Apprentice mentality. For many of us, we’ll use our ideas to build ventures in an effort to grow those ventures into something big, something great.Unfortunately, that rate of success to failure is usually pretty low as many of our ideas fall apart and we start to detach ourselves from them as we accumulate better ideas that we wish to push forward with. When that happens – especially for us serial entrepreneurs – we are left with a bag full of companies that we never really grew either because we didn’t have the means to do so or we simply lost interest in the project.Money, time, and energy were put into all of these ideas, thinking that they were going to be something big. However, just because you never followed through with the project, it doesn’t mean that the idea was weak – it probably means that your interests lie elsewhere.Have you ever considered selling those ventures to someone else? If not, you should start thinking about that. Just recently I was thinking how about my first company that I ever built (here’s the story) and how it was just sitting around on my hard drive not doing anything.Though I never really pushed forward with the site – even when it started making me some money – I strongly believe that it’s a viable business and in the right hands someone can turn it into something great. Which is why I plan to sell the service in a few days.A The SEO community seems to have a Survivor mentality rather than an Apprentice mentality. Even negative people say that they have a positive attitude. All agents have seen it one time or another. They are at a meeting, and in the hallway during one of those five minute breaks they notice a woman on the telephone. In fact, she’s on the phone on every break. Finally one agent says, "calling your husband, huh?" to which she quickly responds, "No! Setting appointments." She’s obviously protecting or insuring her ‘good attitude’. She’s making sure that the outside influence of a meeting will not affect her production goals or her ‘good attitude’.Or, what about the guy who’s sitting at a table by himself at the Monday morning ‘turn-in’ meeting. He’s busy wrestling with a pile of papers and hasn’t said a word to anyone. Someone goes up to him and says something about the monsoons or scorching heat or earthquake in China last week and he barely acknowledges their presence. "All those papers must be apps", he mutters to the group in the hall.An example of Attitude Insurance:Sam, a new agent, rode with John, a seasoned pro, for a week. Monday, John finished setting up his week. He already had about eight appointments and added another 7 or 8. It didn’t look too difficult, people just seem to like him. On Tuesday, things started going bad. The first appointment wasn’t there so they just introduced themselves to a few other businesses. This isn't a black hat/white hat thing, it's a "my ways are the right ways and your ways are everything that's wrong with the industry" thing. That's actually what is wrong with the industry. To be fair, there are a lot of things that constitute good (ethical) and bad (unethical) business practices. In SEO, however, that word "ethical" has taken on a whole new identity to mean anything that company X says it should be. Last year I read a very prominent SEOer's book which stated that submitting anything but your actual business name in the "title" field to an online directory, such as Yahoo, is "unethical". Come on. Really? Business ethics are pretty much universal and there are very few instances where ethics apply only for a particular industry. Cheating your clients is unethical. Lying or misrepresenting what you can do is unethical. These are universal. Using keywords in the title of your directory submission is not. (Note: I'm sure there are certain business e
