    Not So Stationary Stationery
The elements and functionality of the basic stationery system is changing. With the advent of email, fax, web and cell phones, stationery systems must be adjusted to meet the needs of today’s business.Business CardsThe biggest change by far in business cards is the amount of information they contain. Current cards often juggle multiple phone numbers, email, and web addresses as well as one or more street addresses. Companies are adopting logos with taglines and sometimes sub-taglines. We have even seen mission statements and bullet lists of services and product lines printed on cards. To corral the potential chaos, think carefully about the purpose of the card and how the end viewer will use it.Secondary information such as alternate addresses can be positioned away from the key content on the back of the card. Web and email addresses are now easily identified and no longer need "http://," "web" and "email." Alternatively, try a mini CD — a business card sized disk that can contain an interactive presentation.LetterheadIt is not what letterhead says, but how it is used – and not used that is changing. Many businesses now use email for their primary correspondence. Sending invoices, thank you notes and proposals electronically drastically reduces the reliance on printed stationery. While situations remain where professional communication requires a printed letter, the quantity of letterhead ordered can be reduced for many businesses. Corporate address, main phone and fax numbers and website should be still be included. Reserve personal information, such as email and cell phone numbers for individual business cards, even if there is only one person in the business.EnvelopesThe standard #10 business envelope is still around. Known as the "bill" or "invoice" size, we like to create distinctive designs that stand out and beg to be opened. Invest in having your logo printed in your corporate colors on paper that matches your cards and stationery. Mismatched mail

Optimized Press Releases: When Public Relations Equals PageRank
A while ago we got our brand new company domain up from PageRank of 0 to a very healthy PageRank of 5 in under two months?Yes, we know PageRank doesn’t mean much, except in terms of branding. But it does give some indication of how effective your link-building techniques are. So what was so remarkable about the way we achieved a decent PR in a short time?It was more the fact that we used very sound techniques to make that happen. No reciprocal links, no link buying, no techniques that could get you banned. Just completely legitimate methods that you can use time and again to build links to your own website. Why Press Releases?Among the most effective techniques that helped us build quality links to our website was the use of press releases. In fact, using an optimized press release is such a powerful method of building links that we now recommend it to all our clients.Just the single press release here helped us build links not only from high-PR press release sites, but also from competitor sites where our news was syndicated. http://www.seoandmore.com/media/press1.htmCompetitor Sites? How Do You Do That?Well here’s the secret (if you want to call it that). One of the best sites to submit your press release is on PRweb. Using the $80 option, you can get your release syndicated through Yahoo! News so that it gets picked up and syndicated on a lot of other sites related to your theme or topic.Result: You can get up to hundreds of theme-relevant links pointing back to your site in just a few hours after your press release has been syndicated. Many of these sites could be your competitors.Imagine having your competitors working to build links to you. What more effective link-building tactic could there possibly be?Of course, once your link on Yahoo! News vanishes, your link popularity (and PageRank) could drop. But that didn’t happen to us, because we recommend that you always build redundancy into your link campaigns. So we use a
If you’re running an internet business in our country, you’ll inevitably be faced with some search engine marketing that’s for sure. You’ve probably heard that you need to submit your web site to various search engines in order to drive traffic to your web site. We don’t want to discourage you so let’s separate a little myth from reality.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling a product or a service without traffic you’re dead before you come to life online. Experts agree, the best method of driving targeted traffic to your web site is through organic searches at the search engines. In other words, a user goes online and types in a keyword or two, which leads them to your web site on the search engine results page. You want to be listed on the first three pages because most people won’t search beyond that. But how do you get there?

Well, thisarticle will hopefully show you what you need to know to get listed in the search engines. But there are a few things you need to know about search engines before you get too deep into search engine submission.

    Types of Search Engines

No doubt, you’ve heard about the big three search engines: Google, Yahoo and MSN. Of course, there’s the up-and-coming Ask.com, previously askjeeves.com, but they still have a relatively small portion of the market share. Despite that, you don’t want to discount them.

In addition to the international players, there are local search engines. In Australia, the local search engines include WebWombat, Yahoo Au and Anzwers.com. They can be just as effective in driving traffic to your web site as the big search engines and they’re truly local so they will help you drive local traffic to your web site, which is important if you are running a localized business.

There are other types of search engines, too, and you’ll need to consider them all. You have specialized niche directories and business directories, themed directories, topical directories, you name it. Your search engine submission strategy should include all of these but

Will the Importance of Email Continue to Grow?
Email marketing in 2007 is vastly different than it was five years ago, or even a year ago. Many people have started using spam filters to the point where normal emails can’t even get through anymore, and some of those folks have started being more lax about spam filtering. Consequently, email marketing has had to change markedly. Those who adhere to the old spam style marketing techniques are not only blacklisted wherever possible, but are sometimes arrested for their activities. This has made email in general change. Many people have turned to the white list, a system of allowing emails only from approved sources. While this is an important technology, it often prevents someone from sending a friend or associate an email from another address and confusion can result. However, email has more and more become the medium of choice for communications. Much of email marketing in 2007 was different than a few years before because people realized that and changed strategies--some use newsletters that people sign up for and others used autoresponders, which amounts to giving people permission to send you product updates and other company news. this may require them to include your email address in their address book for the email to arrive in their inbox. While there are other methods of bypassing email spam filters, such as RSS and some networking sites, generally spam is still frowned upon. Email marketing in 2007 includes much less spam than it used to, and people are coming up with more methods every day to do inbox-friendly marketing. And most approve wholeheartedly!

Small Business Owners - Do Your Marketing Consultants Measure Their Own Marketing Efforts?
As a business coach, one of my most consistent messages is "If you can't measure it you can't manage it." This message is for every performance indicator from marketing to sales to production or profits. However, recently, I am discovering more and more marketing consultants and business coaches who cannot measure the results of their own marketing plans. Let me explain. After 5 years of trying, I finally achieved a goal of writing a column for one of the two local newspapers. I called another small business marketing consultant who has been a columnist for a while to ask him about some key generic measurements from this activity to establish some benchmarks. For me, key measurements would be: How many calls on average are your receiving from each column? How many clients have you received from this writing effort? What percentage of your business has been a direct result of these columns? During our discussion, I learned that he had not specifically measured any of his results except that he did get calls and some turned into clients. What surprised me is that this well respected marketing consultant who helps to craft marketing plans for small business owners and talks about measurements, could not share with me any specific results. Since my questions were not specific as to dollar amounts, I don't believe his inability to answer my questions was because he feared revealing proprietary information.Marketing, no matter the vehicle, is a results orientated action. For X marketing activity, Y sales should be generated resulting in Z production or revenue. To increase revenue begins by determining client value and how many sales that means. Then from those sales, you should know what actions from your marketing plan will increase sales. For example, I know that my average business coaching client is worth Z dollars. This happens from one sale or Y. I also know that for each delivered speech will generate one sale for one cli

Architect: Translating Visions Into Workable Spaces
You can see him sitting hours on end at his drafting table, his drawing lights on, gesticulating, talking to himself translating the images that the client conveyed into tangible and workable designs.Architects are planners and builders. Their craft takes into consideration the availability of materials, principles of engineering, aesthetics, building codes, local regulations, structural principles and bill of the materials. He must be knowledgeable on the methods that are available to the builder, the ability to negotiate with the builder for the best cost and time frame possible and oversee the construction. Architects must have the capability of understanding the clients’ environment providing advice and translating the images that was conveyed into a final design. The architect is a planner and a builder. An architect affects landscapes.Architecture is an old craft. It came from the Greek word arkhitekton or chief builder. Today however, a chief builder, a draughtsman and an architectural technologist may render architectural services but may not necessarily be called an architect. Architects like many professions are required to have a specialized education, a work experience and a license to practice. They are recognized at par with Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers. It has often been said that what we eat is what we become. By extension, our homes or the edifices that we construct reflect very much what we are. Where we live affects in a very big way what we are trying to tell the world. It is a good approximation of the lifestyles we lead and the attitudes we take. Our homes for example tell people a lot about our preferences and our standards. These are some of the very important factors that the architect has to bring forward in building our homes and the edifices that we want.Depending on the country where they are practicing their professions, architects are expected to have completed requirements and in many countries these can be stringent. In the United States, befo

You have specialized niche directories and business directories, themed directories, topical directories, you name it. Your search engine submission strategy should include all of these but let’s be careful by what we mean by “search engine submission strategy.”

Search Engine Submission Defined (With A Little History)

Back in the old days, during the Internet’s infancy, submitting web sites to directories was the going thing. A necessary component to running a web site, business or not, everyone did it. It was expected and no one bucked the system.

Old timers will likely remember when Yahoo was considered nothing more than a directory and The Open Source Project, DMOZ, was the world’s largest and most important directory. Things have changed since those days, but not too much.

Google, for instance, revolutionized the way searches are performed. In 1998, Google’s founders incorporated and popularity soon followed. Starting with a method of measuring the number of back links to a web site, an innovation in 1995 when it was first introduced, Sergey Brin and Larry Page started their own search engine. They were soon the top dog in a vicious canine fight. Not long after, Yahoo began competing in some areas and the race was on for search market share.

While Google was busy developing its popularity algorithms, Yahoo was busy taking site submissions and building its ever growing catalogue of web sites. Meanwhile, DMOZ was outpacing Yahoo, having got an earlier start. Because Google had to rely on primitive search technology, they were forced to make themselves relevant by using DMOZ as a source for web site information. The move helped them to grow and perfect their ability to analyze back links and other important web site criteria for their ranking algorithms.
