I Should Have Been on Oprah - But There's Still Nascar lf as only a marketer.I was watching Oprah the other day and all of the sudden there was Grammar Girl talking about sentence structure and using the right words in the right ways. I couldn’t believe it. I’d read about promoting yourself to such levels, but never, in a million years, thought Oprah would be interested in doing a story about a grammar book. Grammar Girl wrote one. I wrote one too. The difference is she probably sold thousands, maybe even millions while my book sales have yet to reach the hundreds. Why? Just recently in Australia, a story was shown nation wide of how employers are now paying for companies to supply them with cheap labour from places like Southeast Asia. The argument put forward by the employers is that they are cheap, reliable, qualified, and most importantly, they want to work, and this is more than what can be said for Australians, especially the young. On the other side of the coin, union bosses are crying foul because it is impossible for a qualified worker in Australia to compete with a similarly qualified worker from overseas, who is asking around 30 to 40% of I like that “happily open up their wallets”! Your customer should be happy to open his/her wallet. When business is done right, everybody wins and nobody loses. The minute you stop thinking like a writer, the sky’s the limit. But I gotta warn you, the transition from a writer to an entrepreneur is NOT easy. And its definitely NOT for everyone.
