The difference here, in very simple terms, is that the CEO brings out the finished product to as much people as possible while the techie brings out his service only within the company. The CEO serves to the public masses of people while the techie serves only his office manager (you).
Sure the CEO needs to know some technicalities, but usually they aren’t buried in the minute details! In any business, the more people you serve the more money you get.
That’s why if you market to a group of people you’ll serve more people and make more money than the techie who is wrapped up into programming his software or webpage serving only one person, his boss.
