What to Expect When Buying a Shopping Cart or Ecommerce Solution
It's only natural to have high hopes that our choice of shopping cart software and the company behind it will conform to our every wish. Unfortunately this is a rare occurrence, being that most online store owners go through several systems until they finally find the right one. But you can avoid these mistakes with proper preparations and realistic expectations of the software, the publishers, and yourself.1. Prepare for diligent testing of <
William Shakespeare said that there were seven ages of man.

That magic number could apply equally to the internet, so which age are you stuck at?

The first and most immature age is what I call the "mysite folks". The amazing potential of the internet as the world's greatest medium for marketing simply passes them by. They just see the internet as a place to surf, chat with friends or send e-mails.

Eventually, some of the mysite folks finally see that there is money being made on the internet. Unfortunately, they often fall for the tempting offer of a "web site in a box", without realizing they have to inject the most vital bit -- the marketing. So they end up with a pretty web site about as populated as one of those western movies ghost-towns, where the tumbleweed rolls down a deserted street and the sign over the empty saloon bar creaks and groans in the wind.

They have no conception of the sheer time and hard work needed to create a proper web site that works -- a web site that attracts a loyal following of customers who spend money on a regular basis, be it as members, buyers of the webmasters products and buyers of affiliate products recommended to them. Let's call them "the still haven't quite got its".

Some of "the still haven't quite got its", finally do get it, and decide to really go for it.

The trouble is, they fear failure. And, because they don't understand that failure is actually nothing to fear: it simply goes with the territory of success. In fact, if they cared to read my articles on success, they would realize the people who chalk up the most failures are, in fact, the most successful. So, when it comes to failure - they aren't even in the starting stalls. But, not knowing this, they try and guarantee to success by looking for the "secret of success".

So they buy every e-book. Subscribe to every course. Attend every seminar they can, in an attempt to find the "secret" to instant success.

Eventually, every purchase become a substitute for real action. They are the "can't quite get starteds"

The fourth age is what I call the "opportunity seekers". They actually make a tentative start and put up their own web site. Trouble is, they don't quite know what to do and what not to do. So they buy this new product . . . and then get that software program . . . and then that opportunity. Hardly surprising, really, when they are bombarded from every quarter with this magic technique or that secret way of making a million by Tuesday. So they leave the first web site and set up another one in another niche. You need to build one web site round one subject and put in place all the elements that make it a web site that works. Only then, should you think of creating another web site, which should also be worked on until it too works properly. That is the way to internet success, because you will be creating assets in the form of web sites that work pretty much on autopilot to deliver several streams of passive income.

In the second part of this article, we'll look at where most webmasters get stuck and why. We'll also see how you can become a black belt webmaster by making a subtle change to your operation.
