Casual Articles - Thinking Of Joining One Step? Think Again I've Been There Done That
The Sales Sandwich s. Wow, I said, I think I have that much on a credit card what am I waiting for?Legend has it that the 4th Earl of Sandwich placed his meat between two pieces of bread because it allowed him to continue playing cards while eating without getting his cards sticky from his greasy hands -- hence the name “sandwich.”If you will pardon the pun, if your advertising sales are not a sandwich you are missing the bread and butter of the sales process. Each of the most popular sandwich making salads (tuna, chicken salad, egg and ham, etc.) can be served on a bed of lettuce, a salad, or between slices of bread, a sandwich. The salad is the heart of the sales meal. Within the salad, you have mixed all the facts and benefits that make the meal. You are pitching the best ingredient you can muster. You have seasoned to the prospects taste. You have added the mayo of your personality to bind it all together. You’ve added bits of pickled testimonials, diced onion stories, and the salt and pepper of evidence. You have tossed together the best of all possible sales salads. At the risk of pushing the analogy too far, the Earl of Sandwich’s motive for bread was to keep his hands clean. He knew he needed to eat, but he didn’t want to interrupt what he was doing. If you consider the fact that your prospective client is also more interested in what she or he is doing, than eating what you are serving. It makes sense to present your “sales salad” in bread as a sandwich. This way they can partake without getting their hands greasy. Now, let’s I found myself drifting, lost in my fantasy of expensive cars and homes. A place where I didn't have to go to work everyday and had money for every thing I desired. Deep in my trance with thoughts of riches, I barely recall as I clicked on the pay button. At that point much like a hypnotist snapping his fingers. I felt reality suddenly come back as a sick feeling in my stomach, like what have I done? What was wrong with me? $597 The Dark Side Of Teams My name is Sue Huss and I live in Oregon, Ohio. Like many other people, I found myself looking for a way to make more money. I heard a lot about online marketing and I decided to see what it was all about.A wise entrepreneur once told me, “The whole art of starting and maintaining a business lies in the management of people. You can have a good idea, but a bad team can screw it up. If you have not so good an idea, but have a good team, you can make wonders.” It’s often said that collective decisions of teams are generally more successful than one person making the decision without consulting the rest. Yet, sometimes, a team can make a bad collective decision. From entrepreneurship to venture capital, we now explore the dark side of teams. We often hear about how successful teams can overcome obstacles in their startup. Here is a reason why you should believe in teams. You might not agree with me, but hear me out. There are four essentials features of an enterprise: team, business model, idea and cash. To most businessmen, cash is king. However, not many of us have the luxury of cash that can allow us to pursue our business. Then we look at the idea and business model. No matter how good they are, they need a good team to execute them. Hence it remains that team should be the most important feature of every startup. Of course, the other problem which is faced by most Singaporean entrepreneurs is that no one wants to work for startups, because of the lack of or diminished pay and employment benefits. The other reason is that when a Singaporean works for a startup, the bosses make their lives harder by squeezing them off. There is no win-win situation for them. Of cou I began searching online for a business opportunity when I came across this site advertising a company called Predator. For those of you who have never heard of Predator, it’s just a business opportunity much like hundreds of others. They all basically have the same central idea. The way they work is like this, you join by paying them money. Then you find suckers, I mean prospects, and when they join you make money. Most companies also have your first two sales go to your sponsor. The only difference that I now see is the amount it cost to join. If your asking yourself now, I thought this article was about One Step, be patient I'm getting to that. So Predator's deal was this, you invest $1,500 or $3,000 whichever amount you felt like flushing down your toilet. My words not their's, and when you happen to find someone who is sitting on their brains and also likes to flush, you make money. Although I was sitting at the time, I can't believe I was actually considering it. The sound of easy money was very alluring. Attempting to connect with my rational side, I decided I would at least do a little research online about this company. So I typed Predator on Google and waited for the results. What was I thinking? I found tons of websites telling me how great Predator was and why I should join them. Among all these ads that promised to make me rich, I came across one lone ad that said "Thinking of Predator get the facts first." I clicked on this website and it happened to be an ad for the One Step System. Here I only needed $597 to invest. I would then make $500 on every $597 sale that I made. Sounds great right? If you said yes to that, stop, do not read any more but go directly to my website to sign up. For the rest of you who are still functioning in reality please read on. The ad also said that I could be making $500 in as little time as 3 hours. Wow, I said, I think I have that much on a credit card what am I waiting for? Then you find suckers, I mean prospects, and when they join you make money. Most companies also have your first two sales go to your sponsor. The only difference that I now see is the amount it cost to join. If your asking yourself now, I thought this article was about One Step, be patient I'm getting to that.Hospitals around the country are creating Concierge positions to help meet the needs of their patients and staff. In addition to spacious private rooms, laptops with Internet access, cappuccino on demand, and cable television with DVD players, patients can now indulge in the services of a dedicated Concierge to more personally see to their needs. According to a report by the Center for Health Systems and Design in Lafayette, California, "...hospital patients heal more quickly in a comfortable, attractive environment. A little luxury doesn't hurt, either."Administrators are more closely analyzing patients' overall satisfaction with health care. The addition of a Concierge takes their initiatives to a new level of "pampered" service. The Concierge serves a full shift in pursuit of improving accommodations and making the patients' stay at the hospital as pleasant as possible. Doctors and administrators see this effort as a significant contribution to reducing patients' stress, which consequently always produces faster recovery from injury and illness.Hospital staff is also given access to this luxury amenity. By running errands and handling 'to do' lists for busy nurses and doctors, Concierges reduce staff's daily stressors outside their work environment. Less stressed staff people leads to better service, which causes everyone to win in the end. Although I was sitting at the time, I can't believe I was actually considering it. The sound of easy money was very alluring. Attempting to connect with my rational side, I decided I would at least do a little research online about this company.Workplace Ethics is a subject that we have all heard of. In fact, the subject of Ethics in general is something that most people are familiar with. And, what is commonly understood about ethics is there are ethics and then there are workplace ethics. What most people don’t realize, however, is that there is no such thing as workplace ethics; ethics are the same, (or, should be) whether in the workplace or in personal life.WHAT IT’S ABOUTEthics are about making choices that may not always feel good or seem like they benefit you but are the “right” choices to make. They are the choices that are examples of “model citizens” and examples of the golden rules. We’ve all heard the golden rules: Don’t hurt, don’t steal, don’t lie, or one of the most famous: “Do unto others as you would have done to you.” These are not just catchy phrases; these are words of wisdom that any productive member of society should strive to live by.In our personal lives, most people try to do exactly that. Ethics are thought of by many people as something that is related to the private side of life and not to the business side. In many businesses, having ethics is frowned upon or thought of as a negative subject. This is because business is usually about doing what’s best for number one, not about what’s really the right thing to do. You probably are already feeling uneasy just reading this.A GOOD EXAMPLETake ENRON, for example. Were the actions of ENRON’s CEO’s a g So I typed Predator on Google and waited for the results. I clicked on this website and it happened to be an ad for the One Step System. Here I only needed $597 to invest. I would then make $500 on every $597 sale that I made. Sounds great right? The ad also said that I could be making $500 in as little time as 3 hours. Wow, I said, I think I have that much on a credit card what am I waiting for?The best way to measure your success in direct mail donor acquisition is to examine your cost to raise a donor rather than your cost to raise a dollar.Your cost to raise a dollar is a perfectly valid metric in direct mail fundraising, of course. By dividing the cost of your mailing by the gross income, you arrive at a number that helps you compare different mailings, compare results across different years, and compare fundraising methods (such as direct mail versus banquets versus telephone fundraising). But acquisition mailings are different than other fundraising letter mailings in one major respect—you are aiming to raise donors first, donations second. An acquisition mailing cannot be considered a success if it acquires no new donors, regardless of how much money it brings in.That’s why you need to measure your cost to raise a donor, and watch that number over time to see how it fluctuates when you mail to new lists or mail new acquisition packages. You calculate your cost to raise a dollar by dividing your net cost by the number of donors acquired. Let me illustrate. You mail 1,000 packages at a cost of $1 each. Total cost: $1,000You generate a response rate of 1%. Total new donors acquired: 10.You raise a total of $750. Which means you don’t cover your costs (common in direct mail donor acquisition). So your net cost is $250.Your cost to raise a dollar is $1.33. Your cost to acquire a d I found myself drifting, lost in my fantasy of expensive cars and homes. A place where I didn't have to go to work everyday and had money for every thing I desired. Wow, I said, I think I have that much on a credit card what am I waiting for?Canadian eCommerce growth was recently flat but still has an attractive upside…Recent studies found that Canadian retail e-commerce growth was flat year over year (2003-2004). After further examination however, approximately 60% of the 100 largest non-travel sites succeeded in growing their sales over 20%.Also interesting is the trending of Canadians from buying at non-Canadian sites to domestic sites (63% domestic, 37% foreign). This “domestic shift” clearly benefits the launching of a new eCommerce business in Canada. The sales opportunity lies with the “early adopters”, individuals primarily the 18-34 year old age range. This segment is more technologically savvy and more likely to purchase online. In a 2003 to 2004 sampling comparison, this segment’s overall e-commerce spending increased 44%. The 35 to 54 age group increased only 5% and 55+ increased 18% (includes online travel).Overall Internet Adoption rates still trail the U.S. and come in at approximately 52%. However, with the development of new Internet infrastructures and the maturation of Canadian ISP’s, this number will likely rise in the next 3-5 years. The following quote from the Canadian government re-enforces this theme.“To reach our new national goal (relating to e-commerce) Canadians will need to develop strategies that build an intelligent infrastructure to serve as the backbone of the e-economy- by encouraging investment, strengthening research, enhancing c I found myself drifting, lost in my fantasy of expensive cars and homes. I could have paid my car payment and my gas bill with that money. After about 30 minutes of telling myself how stupid I was, I decided the only thing to do was going to be a lot like pulling a rabbit out of a hat. What I mean is it will be a great trick. I will magically find a positive attitude to put on. Unfortunately it was a bad fit, it felt like putting on a pair of jeans that you have to lie down to zip up. That's a comparison that only women will understand. But just like magic the jeans fit. Since this was my first online business venture, I found one lone thought echoing as if I were on a mountain top. Now what?.......Now what?....... Now what?....... I ask myself what do I do know? Support from anyone in the company is definitely not a word in their vocabulary. My sponsor was very nice and tried to help but you could tell he was new also. After wondering around the back office of One Step's web site. I discovered I had to pay another $29.99 so my website would be live. Not only that but I would be billed that much every month. Without this no one sees what a great opportunity they will be missing. Thinking I have no choice at this point, I pay my $29.99 only to find myself on that mountain top again, hearing that same question echoing. "Now what?" Well, I’m told you really need to create a landing page. A landing page is like a enticing sales letter to grab their interest and a way to get their e-mail address if they decide to leave your website. You see its all a game of numbers they tell me, if you get their e-mails and they're not convinced about joining One Step, you will be able to e-mail them later and tell them how great One Step is and how much money your making etc. "Don't worry though," I’m told, "One Step provides you with all these great tools to help you create your landing page." After some time of intensely studying these tools, I had only one response. “Huh?” Me create a web page? I'm no writer what would I say on this landing page? As these doubts raced through my mind I came to the only logica
