As far as marketing a website, I don't think anyone has come up with a definitive answer for a successful market campaign on the Internet. It's probably a combination of many ideas and everyone will have to choose their own way of marketing their website, depending on their likes, dislikes, interests and circumstances, etc.
As we all know, the gold rush ended rather quickly for the dot.com's of a few years ago, and we can all learn from their experiences. There's no easy way to drive traffic to a website!
