Direct Mail Fundraising Arithmetic: Avoid Blunders By Knowing Your Numbers
Your direct mail fundraising results never lie. But they mislead you if you let them. I worked as Director of Development for a national charity that held a lavish fundraising banquet each year. The staff, from the executive director down to the receptionist, including the development staff, thought this banquet was the organizatio

A 10 Point Diagnostic For Your Business

In a previous article, I went over some marketing blunders that are best to be avoided if you're going to have any chance of having success online. By no means is this list all inclusive, but if you avoid these major mistakes, you'll have a decent shot at running a successful Internet business.

A really big marketing blunder is loading up your web site with all these bells and whistles like flash videos and animated GIF images and a whole bunch of junk. I know you want to impress people with your web design and graphics skills, but by cluttering up your site with all this junk, you are doing two things. The first thing is that you are seriously slowing down the load time of your site, especially for people who have very slow Internet connections. Believe it or not, dial up still exists. The second thing you're doing is making it hard for people to even find anything amidst all that clutter. Okay, keep it simple.

Another very big marketing blunder is wasting time with unproductive activities. I know we like to check our email and hang out at our favorite forums or whatever, but you need to focus mostly on the things that are going to make you money. So when you are doing something online, ask yourself just one question. "Is this going to lead to me making money?" If it's not, then don't do it or at least don't spend a lot of time doing it. Concentrate on what's productive.

One of the biggest marketing blunders of all time is not getting a professional email account. If you want people to take you seriously as a businessman, you don't want to be sending emails from JohnDoe2647@dingleemail.com. But as far as the basic steps to set up a simple form on your website to collect names and email addresses, it is actually not very difficult. The f

A Funny Thing Happened While I Was In The Forum
Yeah, I know. The title's not that original, but maybe it made somebody click thru and read at least this far. That's the idea, isn't it? Probably an even bigger marketing blunder than the one previous to this is not building your list. Every marketer that goes on without building a list is leaving money on the table. Most customers will not buy from you the first time they see your site. So, if they go to your web page and there is no way for them to opt in to get some kind of free report or something, then you have lost them. They may never come back and you have lost a potential sale down the road because you have no way of following up with them. Okay, build your list. It will add to your income in the long run.

Again, this list is by no means all inclusive. There are so many mistakes that people make it's a wonder that the failure rate for Internet marketers is only 95%. Hopefully, if you avoid the blunders that I have outlined in the two articles I've written on this subject, you'll give yourself a decent chance to optimize your income.
