Examining the Importance of Packaging in the Distribution Environment

A well-designed distribution package can make an immediate and significant contribution to a company’s bottom line by reducing or eliminating product damage and decreasing transportation costs. A properly designed package will also enhance company image. The packaging design mission is to achieve optimum cost by balancing the sensitivity of the product with the protection provided by the packaging to match the hazards existing in the distribution environment. The science of distribution packaging is more sophisticated and complex than most people expect. Where Succession Planning Fails
I am often hired to coach someone who has moved from a technical role to one of leadership. When I use the term "technical" I mean in the broadest sense of a functional expert, whether it be in the field of technology, accounting, legal, sales or other specialised role. The call from the HR Department usually comes after the event, when things have started to go wrong. So why do so many companies promote people into leadership roles who are unprepared for leading a team? Is it simply that there is no formal succession plan? Not at all. An individual may be earmarked for promotion for what on the surface appear good, logical reasons. He or she has received consistently good performance appraisals, feedback from colleagues is positive on their expertise in the job and they regularly meet or exceed their KPIs. All the right reasons for a well deserved promotion, one might think. It seems quite logical to promote someone who is an expert in their field to head up a functional team. Surely a team with an expert at the head can only benefit from that wisdom and experience. The team will consider themselves lucky to have someone
You heard the message before. Your e-mail list is the most important key to your future online success. The best list is a highly targeted and responsive opt--in list. At present, the single opt--in method is the preferred approach to building a list. However, Internet promoting considerations suggest the list owner should use the double opt--in or confirmation method to build a list. What is the right method for you?

    Opt--In Process

The opt--in process means that an individual has requested to be on your mailing list before you a^dd them. At the same time, the individual must be given the ability to opt--out (unsubscribe) from your mailing list at any time.

In the single opt--in method, an individual registers to join your e-mail list by submitting their name and e-mail a^ddress. As a result, the individual is giving you their permission to send them e-mail messages that promote specific products and services or discuss specific topics.

In the double opt--in or confirmation method, an individual registers to join your e-mail list in the same manner as the single opt--in method. In response, the individual receives an e-mail from you to confirm their e-mail a^ddress. Upon receipt of the confirmation e-mail, you a^dd the individual to your mailing list. If the confirmation e-mail reply is not received, do not a^dd the individual to your list. However, you may want to follow-up with the non-confirming individuals and give them another chance to confirm.

    Autoresponder

Your autoresponder should have the capability to implement the double opt--in method. If not, you can setup one very easily. Set up two separate campaigns in your autoresponder (let’s call them “A” and “B”). Campaign “A” receives the initial single opt--in request from your visitor. In turn, the message from campaign “A” contains a link the subscriber clicks to send a confirmation e-mail to campaign “B.” The “blank” e-mail sent to campaign “B” is from the subscriber’s “default” e-mail system containing their confirming name and e-mail a^ddress.

Simple Money Machines - An Easy Way To Set Up Affiliate Sites
Are you looking for a way to make money on the internet? If so, is the information you are finding making your eyes bleed? There is so much information out there and so many choices to pick from that it can be completely overwhelming. The problem with all this information you are finding is that most of it is complete hype and useless. You can buy ebook after ebook and listen to free videos and audios and pretty soon you figure out that the only people making money on the internet are the ones that are selling mostly useless information that you bought. There are lots of different choices. Ebay is a good place to start, but it can be difficult to find things to sell and it can be very time consuming. You can set up a website if you already have a product in mind, but how do you build that site? And then after you have spent hours on the website you have to get traffic to the site and maybe you don't have a clue how to do that.I have been in that situation myself. I had very few computer skills so I had to look for something that was fairly simple to learn. Building a website from scratch was way out of my l

Not Another Calendar! - Choose Advertising Specialties That Sell
As I was searching through a kitchen drawer the other day, I found dozens of pens, pencils, letter openers, sticky-note pads, oversized paper clips, rulers, dental floss, calendars, magnets, whatsits and thing-a-ma-bobs, each with the name of a business on the front. In looking through my "collection" I discovered some things I love and use and others that I can't imagine why I picked them up. Some, I'm not even sure what they are! They are all advertising specialties. You know, those giveaways that are going to bring customers swarming to your door. Advertising specialties can put your name in front of prospective customers and keep it there. That way, your name will be on their minds and in front of their faces when they decide to buy. But too often, they don't work the way you expected them to.The trick to using advertising specialties effectively is to understand who your customers are, what they value, how they will use your giveaway, and where they will be when they make a buy decision.Pizza delivery restaurants give out lots of refrigerator magnets. Where are you when you decide to order a pizza? You probably just

How To Get Celebrities To Endorse YOUR Product
How would you like celebrities to endorse your product?Perhaps that sounds crazy. Well, here's the info...But before anything else - let me stress that when I say "celebrities", I'm not talking about Tiger Woods or Tom Cruise!Who I'm talking about is celebrities in YOUR market. People who are very highly thought of and well known in the market you're selling to. People who your target market look up to.Take this real life example:An online publisher named Alex was just about to launch an information product revealing psychological sales tactics. However, even though his product was of the very highest quality, Alex was looking for something "extra" that would increase sales of the product even more. What Alex wanted to achieve is to boost *credibility* in the sales message presenting the product. So visitors to his site would actually believe what they read, and therefore be a lot more likely to buy. Now, since the product Alex was selling was revealing sales and marketing tactics, it would of course be purchased by people interested in selling more online. So who better to give A

Online Registration Success: Give Access to Detail
Do you find people are abandoning their registrations part-way through? The solution may lie in how much detail you are giving up front. Why are people jumping ship? One reason people abandon their registration is because they want to learn more before buying. You could have the best speakers in the world at your event, the most cutting edge training, the best and brightest attendees, but if no one knows about any of that then potential registrants will have trouble justifying spending their time and money. Remember, your objective in online registrations is to make it as easy as possible for someone to find you, decide on your event, make a payment, and get all the information they need to attend. What do my registrants need? Having links from the registration pages to more detailed pages (either on the registration system or to your website) is very important. It enables the registrant to open secondary windows, get more information, and then come back to finish their registration. It takes very little time and effort to click a link and read more information in a new window, so that is a gre

    Subscriber Relationship

To be successful in e-mail promotions, you must build a personal one-on-one relationship with your prospects or clients. The success in your online mark^eting hinges on maintaining and building this personal relationship. As the list owner, you need to establish the initial relationship by:

    • Obtaining permission from your subscribers to send them promotional messages and other types of useful information

    • Practicing respect for the privacy of your subscribers.

    Implicit Opt--In

An implicit opt--in situation may exist as the result of permission that is not granted but is derived from another relationship. An example would be when an individual has previously purchased from you. In this situation, you may be able to send limited but unsolicited e-mails to that individual under this pre-existing relationship. However, this level of implied permission must never be exceeded without the expressed consent of the individual.

    Considerations

As a list owner, you work hard to drive traffic to your web site and get subscribers to join your list. Individuals respond and decide to join your list. They submit their name and e-mail a^ddress. Great! All that hard work of publishing a newsletter, writing ezine articles and promoting is finally paying off. You have genuine subscribers. Or do you?

As it turns out, some of these new subscribers did not sign-up on your mailing list, do not want to receive your mark^eting messages or forgot they signed up. You run the risk of getting sp^am complaints when you send e-mail messages to this group of individuals. This can be a serious problem to your online business. Open your e-mail and look at the flood of unwanted messages. Scan and listen to the media reports. Sp^am is a continuing problem.

MessageLabs, a provider of e-mail security services, monitors e-mail messages on a worldwide basis. Out of 157 million e-mails tracked in July 2003, they reported that 80 million e-mails were sp^am. That’s a 51
