Intuition – The Gut Brain for Business Success
A wise and dear mentor once said to me "Given enough information your intuitive sense will be validated." Intuition some suggest comes from our gut brain as described by Dr. Hawkins in his book Get Out Of Your Own Way or by others as an unknown sense that has always been with us.Whatever the source, intuition is the gut brain for business. For example, have you ever met a potential client and felt immediately that this was a good fit or conversely met a prospect and couldn't get away from him or her fast enough. Why did you have those strong feelings? And more importantly, why did

The Rise Of The Dollar Stores
Sheryl Huenster is a self proclaimed dollar store junkie. The Clifton mother of four makes the trek to various fixed price stores within a ten mile radius of her white clapboard home two or three times per week.“I’m an addict. I admit it. I can’t go more than a week without visiting the stores, unless I’m on vacation. You better believe that when I go to the Jersey Shore I know where the all the stores are in the Toms River area,” she laughed.Years after the close of Woolworth’s and other “Five and Dime” stores, dollar stores are filling the void by opening up around the country, but they seem almost ub

How Switchplates Can Turn a Room from Dreary to Dazzling in Seconds
There are no two people alike in the world, so no two people have the same taste. Why is it then that the majority of homes have plain, white switchplates?Switchplates have been around since the days of indoor electricity. They cover an open area in a wall where a light switch is in place, making the area look neat as a pin as it covers the exposed wires, all while assisting in a hazard free area. The originals were quite hideous, usually made of a boxy style wood block, not meant for any sort of decorative purpose at all, just for practical use. We’ve certainly come a long way, as the days of your gr

          A Case for Data Scrubbing
Often maintenance systems don’t reap the benefits that they promise through no fault of their own. How can you expect a system to improve underlying data? The answer is that you can’t. What you need is to have good data in the system so that it can be accessed, processed and used to provide practical information for the organization.Let me illustrate the cost of not having good data with an example. A multi-site manufacturer has four locations, three of which are in fairly close proximity to each other. Each site has its own autonomous storeroom with inventory parts. At each site, there is a part time c

              What is a Payment System?
What is a payment system? I am reminded of lengthy debates around the office on just this question - and the heated and, at times, passionate discussion that ensued. My antagonist, who is also my partner, took one view and I took the other. The thrust and parry of the dialogue ebbed and flowed … long into the night over innumerable cups of coffee. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) definition of a payment system states; “A payment system consists of a set of instruments, banking procedures and, typically, interbank funds transfer systems that ensure the circulation of money”.
