Are you happy with your website?

Does it generate as much business as you'd like it to?

    Does it generate enough leads?

As you're reading this article, I'm guessing that business could be better. Well, if you want to build, promote and profit more from your website here are three vital considerations that will help you do so:

    1. Make sure your website has a 'most wanted response'
    2. Promote your website continually
    3. Build trust in you and your website.

Let's see how we go about putting those considerations into action.

    1. Make Sure Your Website Has a Most Wanted Response

A 'most wanted response' is simply another way of describing the main purpose of your website.

So, if your site sells goods, then which items do you most want to sell? If you run a content site, supported by affiliate programs, then which affiliate programs do you most want to promote? If your site sells some kind of subscription (or membership) service, then do you make it easy for people to subscribe from any page on your website?

In other words, what is the 'point' of your website.

Once you fully understand what you want your website to 'do' then simply design or redesign it with that purpose in mind.

    2. Promote Your Website Continually...

It is important to promote your website and to continue doing so. Don't bother trying out hundreds of promotion strategies, as most of them are ineffective and you'll only dilute your efforts. Instead, concentrate on important website promotion strategies and do a few of them well.

Here are a few strategies to get you started:

    - Get listed on the major search engines and directories. These include Google, Yahoo! and MSN and important directories can be found at StrongestLinks.com

    - Get involved with article marketing. It's a long-term strategy that really does help promote your websites and your own expertise. EzineArticles.com is a great place to start with both learning about writing articles and learning how to promote them

    - Understand the who, when and why when it comes to your site visitors. Track their movements. Know your visitor. Know which search terms bring visitors to your site, and which pages they leave from

    - Build incoming links to your site. You could start with swapping links, but it would be better to write articles (see above) or for you to try and get your links on so-called Web 2.0 websites (this is known as social media optimization)

Assumptions Continue to Derail the Best Strategic Business Plans
Assumptions are the thought processes from our belief systems. In business, these assumptions can derail the very best strategic plans. For example, these assumptions interfere with the continued inability to effectively execute the best-laid business plans. Also, assumptions interfere with our decision making and problem solving process. One of the stories that I tell as a business coach is the Bill and Hilary story. This story quickly demonstrates the pow
about putting those considerations into action.

    Automating Your Customer Support
My regular readers will know that one of the things I highly recommend doing with any online business is automating as many of your day to day tasks as possible. From a personal point of view, one of the tasks that takes up a lot of my time is answering emails. It isn't just answering email that eats up the hours - sorting through and deleting spam and junk mail absorbs a lot of time too. In the good old days, I used to get a couple of spam emails a day. Now it is

Switch on Your Employees - Say an Unexpected 'Thank You'
Unexpected recognition for a job well done is very, very validating for your people.Whilst you are busy, you are also developing habits that, well, just creep up on you. This means that you do things; behave in a certain way - and now is the time to redress that.If you find there are some of your people you have instant, deep rapport with, it's just human nature to hang out with them more. Listen! How to Sell More by Listening More!
In my opinion, one of the biggest skills of being able to sell well is developing your listening skills. Most sales companies and sales people talk about being consultative but they don't really know what consulting is! No-one can consult if they cannot listen first. You cannot sit around a table with your fellow sales people and decide what consulting services you are going to offer to a client - it doesn't work like that. Yes, you need a clear picture of what your servic

    - Continue to create (and promote) new content. Blogging is a great means of doing this.

    3. Build Trust in You and Your Website

So, you want to sell online?

Well it isn't that easy I'm afraid.

One of the first things you must do online is to get people to trust you and your online business. And with thousands upon thousands of websites available and constant fear of internet fraud, it often takes time. There are, however, a variety of methods of building trust. I'll cover two methods here:

    - Offer invaluable and relevant information, free, via repeat contact if at all possible. (This is sometimes known as follow-up marketing.) In other words, offer a free ebook, email course or report to your site visitors - show them what you know!

    - Write a well-informed blog. Not only do you satisfy the need of creating new and timely content, you also get a chance to show off your expertise.

Doing business online is not rocket science. Simply know the main purpose of your website and effect that purpose; continually promote your website; and make sure your site visitors start to trust you. Do these three things correctly and soon you will be doing *more* business online.
