You probably already know that the Overture keyword tool is a valuable free tool available to everyone. You can check it out at inventory.overture.com.

When I first started online marketing about four years ago one of the first tools I used was the free Overture Keyword Tool at inventory.overture.com. For the longest time I did not understand why the keywords that came up did not seem to make sense. For instance I might put in the phrase "make money" and one of the phrases that would come back would be something like "blogs make money with". Who would type something like that in Yahoo.

I asked several people on forums and even a few guru's. Nearly everyone told me that Overture returns phrases exactly as they are typed in at Yahoo. "Overture has no reason to change the phrase" one supposedly all knowing guru told me. Yea right. There are not thousands of people around the world that are typing in the term, "blogs make money with" instead of the correct phrase, "make money with blogs".

So how do you write articles for a term like this? The phrase, "blogs make money with" is not to bad, but that is not what people are searching for. Finally I picked up my phone and called Overture to settle it once and for all. I simply asked the guy why sometimes some of the phrases that the tool returned were outright wacky. His response, "sometimes the tool will put the words into alphabetical order, but sometimes it does not". Interesting, very very interesting.

He could not really give me a straight answer why the tool does this but he was sure that the tool does sometimes put keywords into alphabetical order. So if you are ever using the Overture Keyword Tool and you get some wacky results take a minute and see if the words are in alphabetical order. If they are it's usually not to hard to put them in the correct order.
