    Don't Network Like This
In the old days of networking (and unfortunately, believe it or not, still in most Australian networking organisations) people were taught networking practices that were appalling rude. It’s no wonder that networking is so hated, particularly in Australia, that organisations like BNI have to force their members to attend meetings by threatening to “open their category” if they are absent too often. And yet networking, done properly, is possibly the number 1 most effective marketing or business building activity one could engage in. So why hasn’t it been done properly? What are the mista

Most of the things required to make improvements to your business, to allow you to move your business up a notch will be common sense type of ideas. Things you probably are already aware of.

All you have to do is get those ideas out and make use of them. Not that easy of a thing to do on your own.

Creating An Injury-Free Workplace: How To Avoid Corporate Complacency - the Silent Killer
Every day in the United States on the average, 15 workers lose their lives as a result of injuries or illnesses related to their work – that’s over 5700 people. These people leave behind families, friends, and co-workers. The single most common cause is complacency – an attitude that “it won’t happen to me.”Complacency Kills The Entire OrganizationToo often individuals and companies become complacent when it comes to safety. Managers are satisfied with mediocre safety performance and do not work to improve the environment by raising safety awareness and eliminating the poten

A great many employees leave their brainpower outside the office because of the top down management, head office mentality that runs some companies. These companies don't find out they have a problem until they start to falter. That's when the blame goes everywhere except to where it belongs.

I've seen well run successful BC companies bought by an eastern corporation and then operated from a distance. That's when they start to run the company their way and 'forget' about what works and who works. It's hard on employees to be managed from such a great distance. They soon learn that the local manager is not working for them but working for the eastern company. When mistakes are made at that distance, they are blamed on the economy, or the local governments or anything but the poor management of the head office. The purchased BC company becomes the 'western' branch of the larger eastern corporation and is managed that way. Just a small branch way out there. This scenario is the same on a north south basis. A BC company purchased by an Arizona company is not long for the business world. Good people start looking for more stable jobs.

When managing your business, wherever it is, consider the value of the employees. They'll make the difference between a good company and a great company. Let them know what the plan is. Ask for their participation in the plan. Let them be part of the plan. They in turn will be part of the business and the company will have a better chance of being 'a great place to work'.

Commission salesmen with the car allowance and entertainment budget, may be perceived to be well rewarded for their successful figures but they work hard to earn their pay. They deserve recognition just as much as the wage earner for achieving success for the company. They may need the appreciation even more because they are in fact working for themselves and the company while the wage earner is working for the company. The commission salesman has a lot more control over his/hers own success than does the person in the office. The commission or outside salesman does a lot of work by themselves, isolated from the office except by phone & blackberry. Keep them in the loop.

Taking Advantage of Trends: Grown-Up Tastes
Trendwatchers calls it "Mass Class." Other sources refer to it as "high-touch." Whatever you call it, the trend toward mass availability of high-quality, sophisticated and status-rich products and services is upon us, and businesses who wish to survive in the coming years would be wise to heed it's call. The era of life lived on price-points is fading - people are no longer willing to accept "just barely good enough" items as long as they are the cheapest. They are holding out instead for offerings that reek of quality construction and customized personal attention - gourmet coffees and

    Using Your Logo
After you fall in love with a logo design and before you invest hundreds of dollars putting it on stationary, t-shirts, trucks, signage, pens and coffee mugs, make sure the logo will look good in those applications.A simple logo with only one or two colors will look good in nearly all applications, but logos with complex illustrations and four or more colors will probably look like an unrecognizable blob when they are shrunk down and put on pens and embroidered on Polo shirts. When did the Job Hunter Become the Bad Guy?
