Have You Got What It Takes?Recently I was out shopping. I returned to my car, put the shopping in my boot, got in, took things out of my pockets and got comfortable. Just as I fired up the engines I heard a frantic tapping on the window on the front passenger seat door. I see a middle-aged lady banging away at my window. I immediately think 'Oh no what have I done?'Have I hit the car behind me, or perhaps just run her dog over?’ I scramble to open the window. ‘Excuse me perhaps you could give me two dollars to get home?’ she asks me.I angrily ask her why she couldn’t have asked someone on the street and why she needed to bother someone already in his car. Then I pulled out two dollars. Immediately after, it occurred to me that this woman playing a rather cunning trick.I decided to watch her for a few minutes. As I suspected she continued to knock on car doors just the drivers were about to head off. The next three drivers all gave her money! Experience tells me she wouldn’t have been nearly as lucky asking passersby on the street. I doubt she would have got anything from a random four people on the street. At that point I realized that she understood more about sales than many company managers. Employment and Career Opportunities in Automotive SectorThere is a huge shortage of automotive technicians in the automotive sector presently and it is growing. By 2007 it is expected to be 188,000 people short. Even with all the layoffs at General Motors, Delphi and Ford Motor Co. there is no way to fill the gap fast enough to fix the shortage.Meanwhile many of the technicians in the auto sector are being required to upgrade their certifications for working on OEM equipment. With a shortage of mechanics in the auto sector and an increase in the number of turcks, cars and boats being sold in the United States of America this poses a real dilemma. The auto sector is not the only place where there's a shortage of jobs right now, also the trucking industry and in the aviation industry we have a shortage of air traffic controllers. It appears that the transportation sector has jobs for anybody who wants to work. However with unemployment numbers at 4.9 percent you can understand the problem. Many new car dealerships cannot get enough auto technicians in order to service the requirements for the manufacture guarantees on their vehicles. If we do not get more people learning the automotive trade we will be in dire straits and no one’s car will run correctly. If you're looking for a job well then, the auto sector is waiting for you. Please consider this in 2006. There is so much small business information available today that it's easy to be bogged down by the sheer volume of it all. Where does one start? Have you found marketing your own business to be a challenge? Maybe you don’t care to go out and network because you are not comfortable in large groups, have difficulty putting into words your thoughts and knowledge, or find speaking in front of a group intimidating. Maybe because of this, you feel there are no other options for marketing and therefore have never put into motion a plan. Or, like me, are you great with coming up with a plan and ideas for a client, but then fall short and out of time for yourself?Crucial to a successful business is having a marketing strategy and setting aside the time to implement it. But, it doesn’t have to be a lot of time. Here are 5 keys in establishing your marketing strategy and setting yourself up for success.1. Establish a marketing strategy that is “YOU.” If you are uncomfortable with public speaking, than by all means do not use this as a marketing venue. If you are more comfortable with writing and enjoy writing, than write articles and circulate them for publication. You have to enjoy what you are doing or you will more than likely, not do it.2. “START” – How many of us get stuck in “analysis paralysis.” I do – I want things to be perfect the first time and I sometimes become overwhelmed with all the ideas and choices to make. Don’t wait to start a marketing strategy. It does not have to be perfect,

The Most Frequent Management / Leadership MistakesOver the years I have observed and worked with numerous managers, business owners and executives in a variety of industries worldwide and I have made a number of observations. There tend to be common consistent management mistakes and errors that are made routinely. My latest sales book, You Call That Selling, 91 Mistakes Smart Salespeople Make, looks like it is headed for best seller status. It was recently picked up by a major publisher after several thousand copies have been sold in less than four months. As a result I am now working on a new book, 81 Challenges Managers Face. It will be in the bookstores in early 2007. Until then, I thought I would share a few of the most frequent mistakes managers make that can have a tremendous negative impact on their organization’s productivity and effectiveness. The idea for this book was as a result of seeing continuous management mistakes that are made over and over again by the same managers that cost their organization’s time, resources, market share and profits. No one is perfect. Show me a manager that never makes mistakes and I’ll show you a manager that is not trying to improve or reach their full potential as a leader or manager. No one makes right decisions every time. No one is infallible. No one has all negative or all positive traits. No one exercises good judgment one hundred percent of the time. The followin n available overwhelm you into paralysis. Once you've gained knowledge on how to become a successful entrepreneur don't stop there. Each day try to work more and more towards formalizing your plans. And don't be afraid to ask for help. Get The Decision To BuyA critical key to persuasion is to understand and use dissonance. You always want your prospect to feel they made the decision, and they persuaded themselves. That is why we say internal pressure is the secret. Let the rubber band stretch. When talking to a prospect you want them to make a decision as soon as possible. They don’t need to know everything about your product or service. Get them involved and fill in the blanks later.
Before they buy your product of service, they are looking for reasons not to do it. After they have made a decision to purchase, they are looking for reasons to stick with the purchase. If you don’t get them while they are hot and ready to purchase, your list of features and benefits will cool them off and they might not buy. This is called overselling. You have talked someone right out of the sale. You did not get a early decision to buy or your laundry list of features and benefits stole the energy and talked them right out of buying.A study by Knox and Inkster found interesting results at a racetrack. They interviewed people waiting in line to place a bet, and then questioned them again after they'd placed a bet. They found people were much more confident with their decisions after they had placed their bet than before the bet was made. They exuded greater confidence in their decisions and their chosen horses after their deci >
