A Franchise - The Path To Ones Financial Dreams?
Ahhh... I love fast food! No, really, I do. I know its not healthy, but a juicy burger, fries and a cola to me are a real temptation. I am clearly not the only one, because there are fast food franchises on just about every corner in America, if not the world. Even if you are a health food addict, there is a franchise for that too. You name it, furniture, clothing, drug stores, party stores, exercise equipment, shoes, underwear, Halloween costumes, and the list goes on forever

The New Wave in Small Business Financing
This is HUGE. This is tsunami in the making. Small business financing is on the brink of tapping into billions and billions of dollars that previously shut it out.The signs are quiet. One venture capital firm announced that it had just funded an internet startup for $250,000. Another announced it had just brought in a new partner whose previous background was in angel investment. A third announced it would be sending a senior partner to a business plan competition.<
Why not give an award to your best and favorite supplier and earn their respect and loyalty in the long term. Sounds like a partnership in the truest sense of the word.

We easily recognize and reward our best customers due to their repeat visits to our store and repeat sales (therefore increased profits), but do we recognize and reward our valued suppliers? Consider initiating a “supplier of the year” award and involve your whole staff in the important decision. Even the smallest retailer can implement the award with successful results. Why would a small retailer want to reward their suppliers? Shouldn’t the suppliers reward the business? A new business will learn in the early stages that suppliers and distributors are not always open for business. Often times, a new business has to earn credibility in the industry. When I first opened a store years ago, I remember a supplier’s terse words (after I had assured him I had money in the bank) that “oh sure, new ventures always have money at the start of the new business, but I’m worried about a year from now, or two years from now. Then, not so much money. Will I get my money then when you’re struggling?” I assured him that I was in the business for the long haul, but I remember the words soundly hollow even to me. It was an important lesson then that stayed with me over the years. Suppliers will demand assurances that you have the credit and the credibility to become a partner, therefore, above all, hone your relationships with suppliers.

Employee Layoffs And Being Downsized - If It Happens To You Don't Take It Personally
It was the fall of 1992, at the IBM plant in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where I worked when I received notice that my job would be eliminated early the next year. My immediate thoughts were on the order of what did I do wrong, did I make someone mad, etc. But it was nothing like that. The layoff was not directed at any one person it was just an across the board downsizing.Even though I knew it wasn’t personal thoughts and conversations kept coming around that we were all good wo

A good logo vs. a FABULOUS logo
If you had a choice, which one would you choose, a good logo or a fabulous logo? Think about it for a second here, although I know the answer is crystal clear. Because many of us settle for a good logo created by a credible logo designer just because he or she is a credible logo designer who charges low prices. For example, I had a client who paid $500 for a normal-looking logo which looked like something anyone else can come up with. A couple of color changes to the logo, alterati

The Sound Principle - Sound Bytes Are An Integral Part of Good Presentations!
Many of us tend to take sound for granted, without any real appreciation of the key role it plays in enhancing the importance of presentations. In reality, nearly 40 per cent of the overall impact of any audio-visual communication comes from its soundtrack. Not convinced? Try these… Watch an exciting action movie sequence with the sound muted  Watch your scariest horror movie scene with the sound muted  Watch a sentimental scene from a rom

How To Deal With Unreasonable People
Do you have an unreasonable boss? An unreasonable client? (An unreasonable spouse :) )If you do, here's an approach for responding when they make unreasonable demands of you. It's actually based on some advice I recently gave to a good friend of mine.Basically, my friend is a C-level manager with a growing company, who reports directly to the CEO.Now this CEO happens to habitually make unreasonable -- in fact, outlandish -- demands of his people. And true

Why award a supplier? What’s in it for me? The smart retailer knows that supplier recognition can lead to –

    • An alliance with the supplier

    • Assistance with marketing the product

    • Timelier deliveries and easier re-orders

    • Better terms

    • Increased awareness in the supplier’s “pecking order”

    • Increased awareness in the industry and in the marketplace

    • media press releases

    • a marketing tool and ultimately,

    • increased sales of the supplier’s product

How does one decide on the selection of the “supplier of the year?” Most businesses have statistics and quantitative information that answers that question for the owner. Take this information to your next staff meeting and guide the staff with the following questions:

    • Could we proceed in business without this supplier?

    • Does this supplier deliver on time? Is the supplier reliable? Does the supplier mean what he says?

    • Is there true value – does the price reflect the quality?

    • Does the product have “sell ability”? Does the product sell out? Does the product need markdowns to sell out? What percentage of product ends up on the sale rack at the end of the season?

    • Are re-orders available? Are popular items available e
