    Budget Your Branding
It is very important to regularly monitor your advertising activities in the process of brand building, to realize how much they are contributing to the bottom line. Expediting marketing expenses wouldn’t generally lead to a stronger brand name. Neither is it necessary that they will give you voluminous sales nor a good market name. Though, when the communication is hay wired it might get ruined! The marketing objectives for the undertaken activities should be clearly defined. It shouldn’t be a case that an activity is pursued because some one else (may be competitor!) is doing it.Every organization has to have a budget for its marketing deeds. The

    I Won The Irish Lotto
If you receive a letter and a check in the mail, telling you have won some bit of an Irish Lottery, BEWARE!!I am Sherry Asbury and I live in Portland Oregon. In today’s mail there was a very authentic-looking check for $2,800 and some odd dollars, along with a letter telling me a computer had pulled my winning numbers. It seemed, at least for a few precious hours, that I might win the further amount of $120,00! This check was to defray the costs of winning an overseas amount of money. Some $5,000 would be taken out of the winnings for the “sponsor” who was helping me.Well, I thought to myself, that sounds reasonable. They do it for the fu
Tips on Business Growth in Regional Areas

Since doing the Eyes Wide Open Strategic Stock take in 2002, Woodland Designs has grown to become the Blue Mountains' leading garden design and horticultural company. Always on the lookout for new forms of promotion, Felicity Hallam, one of Woodland Designs directors, put the company on show at the local community festival. With invaluable assistance from Eyes Wide Open, Woodland Designs' first foray into public shows was a success. Felicity explains how they did it, what worked and what they'll do differently next time.

    The Event

We booked a space at the Black heath Rhododendron Festival, which is one of our community's headline annual events. The Festival is in early November when spring is at its peek. The reasons we chose this event included:

o Low pressure - this was our first attempt, so we didn't want the pressure of a major trade show

    o Access to our market

    o Low cost

    What were Our Objectives?

We'd been contemplating using festivals and shows in our local area as a form of promotion for some time. We had many objectives, some of the major one's being:

o Reaching people new to our area

o Educating people about what we do

o Distributing promotional material - mainly our very popular postcards

o Being active in the community. Since ours is a small and close community, supporting community events and showing leadership reflects well on us.

o Collecting names for our email bulletin list

o Trial run. If this event was successful, we intended to make regular appearances at similar events a permanent part of our promotional plan.

    It's All in the Planning

We began by making a thorough plan. We sat down and discussed our objectives then developed the plan around them. Our display consisted of two main parts; a garden display and our documented portfolio and sample plans. The garden display was to attract attention and the portfolio and sample plans were to educate people about the services we offer. Once we had our plan roughed out we took our ideas to Eyes Wide Open. The outstanding team at EWO helped us refine our plan by challenging our thinking on a number of aspects including our processes for following up from the event. Prior to the day we assembled our display off-site as a trial run. This re-assured us our display would be suitably eye catching and helped things run more smoothly when assembling the display on the day of the event. Staffing the display was an important consideration, rotating the personnel meant our presentation remained fresh and enthusiastic for the entire show?

    How Did It Turn Out?

Overall the event was a resounding success. We achieved all our objectives plus a few extras. Transporting and assembling the display went smoothly due to our prior planning. The event turned out to be an excellent way to build team cohesion and pride in the company. We are particularly happy with the following benefits that emerged from the day.

    o Community involvement

    o Reinforcement of our message

    o Market research

o Confirmed the value of having a professional website as a point of difference

o Our garden plan presentation was very popular

o Our promotional material, particularly our postcards were well received

    o Re-contacting existing clients

Poverty to Riches: Myth or Reality?
You CAN start with empty pockets and piles of bills and build a steady income, even wealth, via the internet. It's a long, hard road though, so it's best to prepare and take along a good map.First, a comparison to building an offline, bricks-and-mortar business, just for perspective. If you're young, you might educate yourself in your field, go to work for someone else, and build your experience, reputation and equity. Then you could take out a business start-up loan, rent a storefront, buy all the necessary equipment, tools, furniture and merchandise, buy advertising -- and wait years to work your way out of debt and make a profit. If you aren't y

Work For Your Country: Temporary Government Job
It is an acknowledged fact that The US Government is the largest employer in America with over 1.8 million employees working for them at any given time. The vast majority of these people are permanent employees from very different walks of life, educational backgrounds and skills, but every single one of them contributes to the running of the country effectively. They earn, on average, between $20,000 and $55,000 and have a full range of benefits at their disposal. However, it can actually be difficult to begin working for the government if you explore the traditional routes and look for permanent employment first time. This is not the case if you apply for a t

Are You Ready For Business When You Walk Out That Door?
Remember that people judge you by what they see, hear and sense. In the first 30 seconds, the time it will take you to make your elevator pitch, people will form opinions about your economic level, your trustworthiness, your social position, your level of sophistication, social background, your success in present and current endeavors, your character, your future and decide if they like you. Those are some pretty stout decisions to make in 30 seconds or less. So what can you do to ensure you are prepared to put your best foot forward? Some of this stuff sounds so simplistic that is could be insulting, but many of us operate on auto pilot in the morning an

Our professional appearance and attitude sets are far apart from our competitors. Although service based companies might not think of festivals and shows as a major possibility for promotion, we have found that these events can be an exciting and rewarding form of publicity. Appearing at shows has now become a permanent part of our promotional plan.

    Tips

o Give yourself sufficient lead-time for planning and organizing. For a first show, about a month is reasonable.

o Think about the type of questions people will ask you on the day and write down planned responses.

o Have a trial run of your display before the show so you can iron out any glitches before the day.

o Be welcoming. Try to engage people in conversation rather than bombard them with a high-pressure sales pitch.

o Include something unexpected or attention grabbing in your display. This will help draw a crowd and will be a good conversation starter.
