Hidden Electric Bill Errors And Overcharges: 5 Myths That Could Cost You Thousands
If you are a CEO, CFO, Controller, Purchasing or Facility Director, you may never have considered the fact that your electric bills could have hidden overcharges and errors. However, businesses in Virginia and the Carolinas regularly overpay 5%-15% because of these errors.“Four out of five commercial or industrial customers are over billed by the utility at some point.” according to Brian Coughlan, President of Utility Management Services, Inc. in Wilmington, NC.This oversight is due to some common myths about our nation’s power providers:Myth #1: Utilities are government regulated and have our best interest in mindMyth #2:

Why You Should Always Honour Your Guarantees - Even When The Customer Is In The Wrong
The Reason Why Direct Internet Marketers Have To Work So Hard To Earn Our TrustA bad attitude to customer service can literally destroy your business. So, I thought I'd share my response to what I read on an Internet Marketing Forum recently to illustrate my point. It started with a genuine request made by someone looking to do the right thing despite having a frustrating run of luck..."I've been asked for three refunds this WEEK. The product is a proven one that I've sold for 6 months and my refund rate is normally TINY. I have only been asked for four refunds ever. One of the reasons I've been given are crazy - He thought the produc
In competing for a piece of business not too long ago, my PR firm was asked to supply three samples each of recent clips, bylined articles we’d authored for clients, and press releases.

For two of the three requirements, the issue was our embarrassment of riches. But for press releases, we were hard-pressed. These days, we write fewer and fewer press releases – most being the obligatory personnel announcements sprinkled with the periodic feature release. We just don’t see them as being as important a tool for PR practitioners as they once were.

Yes, there are exceptions. For disclosure purposes, news releases on occurrences or developments that could materially impact a publicly held company are mandatory. And some businesses have real “news” to report, even if they’re not publicly held, that may lend itself to distribution via news release.

Proven Methods To Increase Workplace Productivity... In Less Time and With Less Cost
This article describes how investments in skill-building training programs are usually wasted, and how to implement the best available options for enhancing learner retention and increasing your organization’s ROI.The ProblemDo any of these challenges sound familiar to you?We spent quite a bit of money to train our staff, and now 6 months later nobody is using it! Everybody liked the program, and they were positive when they walked out the door, but nothing seems to have really changed….Our senior leaders are complaining that we didn't get the results we were after, in spite of the sign

Interview with Best-selling Entrepreneurial Authors Barbara Winters and Nick Williams
Ray Bradbury’s quote, “You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down” may sound extreme but, as anyone building a business knows, it has a lot of truth in it.As a newly self-employed journalist / writer and life coach, I found Barbara Winter’s book, “Making a Living Without a Job” invaluable so when I got a chance to interview her and Nick Williams in London, I was delighted. Barbara advocates having Multiple Profit Centres so her approach is ideal for writers, coaches and other entrepreneurs as we often build our incomes by developing several strings for our bows.Barbara co-founded the Dreambuilders Community wi

    Value-Added Network
A value-added network can be achieved through explicit actions to develop, expand, and promote trusted relationships. One successful example is Thomas Powers, the founder and chairman of ecademy, one of the largest UK-based business networks. His passion and commitment to networking compares to none; he is ranked among the top business networkers in the world. Ecademy’s philosophy is “Winning by Sharing”, a theme of paramount importance. Donna Fisher and Sandy Vilas, of Power Networking, define networking as: “Networking is making links from people we know to people they know, in an organized way, for a specific purpose, while remaining committed to doing

    Career Train Wreck
If you've ever felt like your career was heading for a train wreck and didn't know where to turn, look no further than your own mirror. While you will find there are many people in the industry who will help you once you've succeeded, it's a far cry sometimes for anyone to help you when you are climbing up a ladder that sways in the wind and each rung seems like it's going down instead of up.The biggest inspiration you can have to avoid a career collision is to get up, look yourself in eye in your mirror and remember the classic children's book, "I Think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can." From "The Little Train That Could." Say to yourse
to report, even if they’re not publicly held, that may lend itself to distribution via news release.

But despite the popular image of PR firms as press release factories and their account personnel as pitching machines, and the regrettable fact that many still churn them out and indiscriminately blanket the media with releases that have little or no relevance, the reality is that they’re pretty much dead as a piece of the strategic communications arsenal.

Think about it. As a society, we've gone from the era of mass production, mass merchandising, and mass marketing to one where customization is king. In this environment, press releases are to PR professionals what the 30-second television commercial is becoming to the advertising industry. As far as most reporters and editors are concerned, they are overproduced; they lack differentiation; they generally aren’t relevant; and the vast majority just aren’t coverage-worthy.
