Career Job Satisfaction - Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!
Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!We can all get in a rut from time to time. Who hasn’t had a moment in their lives where you’ve asked yourself the question: “Why am I doing this?” Whether it's who you've become, the business you are in, your career, relationships, where you live or all of the above - sometimes you realise you're just not where you want to be – and you’re not sure how you got there! It sure feels like your own version of a rat race though. If where you want to be in your life is not where you are, then maybe it's time for you to drop out of your very own rat race. We are conditioned into believing that we must continue to strive, to take more on, and to do more, in order to be “successful”. But this is a limited and ultimately self-defeating definition. If we can only be more successful by what and how much we do, then we have created our own treadmills to run on.1. Redefine Success Redefining success for yourself can be the first step in taking a fresh perspective. Try this exercise by completing the following sentence. “ I know I am successful when…….” You may not complete the sentence with anything to do with work or material goods. Here are some examples. I know I am successful when…. …I laugh every day with my children …I bounce out of bed enthusiastically every morning …all of my r

Would It Be Your Word Versus Theirs?
What evidence is there of your agreement to deliver goods/services and your client's agreement to pay? When your client's account becomes past due and they suddenly develop amnesia relating to your agreement, what would you have to support your case?  You may have anything from a 5 page signed agreement that would make any attorney feel they'd earned their fee, to an invoice noting payment terms, to a sequence of emails, to a phone conversation. Whatever the documentation you have carries some level of risk. The phone conversation entails a high degree of risk compared to a 5 page signed document which carries a very low level of risk.  Consider how an independent third party would view the transaction. Even if the transaction details were discussed in a phone conversation, notes such as time and date of call and specific agreements lend some weight to your case.  Make plans to be paid before the transaction and improved cash flow will result.
What does public relations (PR) have to do with your and your business? It deserves to be more than just an afterthought. It should be an integral part of your business and has quite a bit to do with how your prospective customers perceive you and your products. Also, it is a way for you to practice your messaging in order to see which messages or concepts resonate with the media and ultimately with your customers.

Over the last 19 months, I have been quoted or featured by 20 different news organizations in such publications as The Washington Post, MSNBC, AP (Associated Press ), Spirit (the In-flight Magazine for Southwest Airlines), Better Homes and Gardens, Monster.com, Shutterbug Magazine Radio, and The Washington Business Journal. Many of these publications are national in scope and have increased my recognition and the ability to attract more business.

Success at Work: Techniques: Computer Literacy
It's hard to believe that there are people in today's workforce who don't know how to use a computer. In today's society, being computer illiterate is equivalent to being functionally illiterate. Obviously no one reading this article is computer illiterate, but maybe you know someone who thinks they can avoid computers and still be successful at work.Let me tell you a story about a good friend of mine back when I worked at Motorola. The company moved the manufacturing of automobile alternators offshore, resulting in his transfer to my department. Although he had about 20 years with the company, this was to be his last stop before being booted out the door.He was assigned to me as an Electronics Technician, and the first assignment that I gave him was to lay out a small printed circuit (pc) board. It was a tiny circuit for a tester, so computer drafting was not required. He could just sketch it out on paper. After several days, he came back to me explaining that he didn't have the technical ability to lay out a pc board. An Electronics Technician that couldn't lay out a simple pc board? Don't all Electronics Technicians make little hobby circuits at home? At least all the technicians I knew did.I explained that he needed to draw outlines of the components and then use the schematic to draw lines between the components connections. Th

A Business of Your Own Using Other People's Money Exclusively
If you are not in a closet, you know that the crazy world of real estate can provide returns considerably above those offered by any bank or mutual fund. 15-2,500 % returns are available. WE are not talking about the unethical and immoral MLM crap but instead, a rather simple way to buy or start your own business “risk free”.You need no seminar, tape, book or course to learn how to do this; I am going to teach you right now. YOU do need to get all your “ducks” in a row and it does take research but the system will work for you.The basic steps:a. find fix up real estate that is available ideally 30-60% fair market value. WHERE is not important as long as you control its repairs and future tenancy.b. buy it with a 103-125% loan from any lender. IF you have no credit, joint venture with a buyer and make the agreement such that you get 50% of the difference in cash between the purchase price plus repairs and the fair market value.C. While the buyer [that you found] is coordinating the financing of the purchase, make sure you have a say-control role, in the property’s repair.D. While B and C are going on, find a business that inspires and excites you that is for sale [geographically near you].E; When the lender and escrow company tell you escrow should close, give to the same title company this business chattel deal

Where to Buy Trade Show Displays
One of the best places to buy trade show displays would be the Internet. You can search the web to find a host of various websites that have been set up by event vending companies. These websites make it easy for you to browse through numerous styles and designs of trade show displays until you arrive at the perfect display to suit your purpose. You would have the option of going through a number of online catalogs that can give you a complete idea about the display before you go in for a purchase. These catalogs not only give you the visual details of the display but will also let you know information pertaining to the various features and hardware that the display entails. These online event vendors would also provide you with delivery to your doorstep. The only drawback that arises in this purchase method is that you are unable to see the actual display until its purchase. Of course some websites do offer a money back guarantee in the vent that a customer is not satisfied with the display. However, seeing the display online as opposed to seeing it in front of you is a different ball game altogether. For those of you who wish to go in for the purchase only after having physically seen the display there are always event vendor stores. You could also go in for the option of buying trade show displays from dealers. However, most dealers might try t

How did I get access to these media organizations? First I was able to sign up with an on-line publicity firm called PR Leads. PR Leads allows me to pitch the media when they need help completing a story with information in my area of expertise. However, this only gets me half way to getting quoted. I have learned that having a consistent message that resonates with my media contacts is the other half of the equation. I have a consistent message albeit one for my photography and one for my professional speaking.

During this time, I have responded to 112 queries in the following categories ... work/life balance, creativity, presentation skills and photography. The reason I chose these categories is simple. I work with people and organizations to increase their communication power through my unique photography angle. I do this through my creative keynotes (work/life balance, creativity and photography) and through my powerful presentations skills.

Out of the 112 queries, I was able to garner 34 responses for a 30% response rate (nearly
