Leadership Lessons from Pope John Paul II
"Heroes are rebels with a cause. Rebels because they challenge the traditional ways of thinking and refuse to follow the herd. They have a cause, a vision, that's larger than life." - Sharif Khan, author of Psychology of the Hero SoulFrom a small-town Polish boy born to a retired army officer to become Pope; from a hard life in Nazi occupied Poland, his mother dead of kidney and heart failure, an older brother dead from scarlet fever, to become quite possibly “man of the century.” How did such an unlikely candidate for the head of the Roman Catholic Church rise so quickly to such prominence? What leadership lessons can we learn from this global spiritual leader who so moved the
sion to take care of himself. However, because his motivation was based in fear, the energy soon petered out.

Do you think he if had spent more time connecting with an Inspiring Why, he may have forever changed his life immeasurably? Imagine how much stronger his commitment to his health would be if he focused on being alive and healthy to actively participate in the lives of his sons as they grew from young children into men?

Desperation can be a good to gather initial momentum, but as you can see it is generally not sustainable. Do you have many people at your work doing the minimum, because they need the money? These are people who are motivated by desperation.

For some people each year sees dazzling growth and success in many areas of their life. Yet, for some each year becomes a dismaying and dreary repeat of the year before - same quality of life in terms of relationships, finances, health, contribution, inner growth and career. Why is this so?

Secret 1: Excitement is temporary, Inspiration is life-changing

The first secret is that successful people find a compelling reason or purpose for sticking to their intent. Annually (often around the 1st day of the year), many people set goals with the best of intent ... wanting to change their life in some way, yet by the end of the January many have given up on the goal. It has been said that day 2 of a diet is always the best, because you've gone back to normal!!

Have you ever, after setting a goal, said to yourself: "I'm pumped, this time it is going to be different, this time I'm going to make it happen?, and yet within a short space of time find yourself back to situation normal? The goal and your excitement a fading memory. This is a tremendous clue that you are running on excitement (which is short-term, temporary energy) and are not compelled by long-term inspiration.

Long term motivation comes when you connect your goals to something that is deep and meaningful to you and has a purpose which inspires you to keep going no matter how tough and challenging it becomes.

Hot Tip: If you awaken one morning and ask yourself "Why am I doing this?" and cannot answer it, you will hit a huge crisis, and you can probably kiss your goal goodbye. So spend time up front getting clarity around why this declared intent/goal is important: "Why do I want this? Why am I doing this? Why makes it so dear to my heart that I will move mountains to cause it to happen?"

Secret 2: Make sure you are Inspired and not Desperate

If your goals are not based in inspiration they may well be based on desperation - fear that something bad will happen if you don't achieve it.

We are driven by our desire for pleasure and to avoid pain. There are many people who will jump out of a 2nd story building when it is on fire - calculating the cost of breaking a leg is less than the risk of burning to death. Yet those same people would not jump out of that building for $10,000. So as you can see people will do things to avoid pain, but do they do it willingly?

A few years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with diabetes. Initially, he was filled with fear and he was careful with his diet and alcohol intake. Consequently he lost a huge amount of weight, looked terrific and his diabetes was well in control. As time went by his fear lessened. Slowly yet surely he began eating and drinking just like the old days. Today he is heavier than before his diagnosis and now has daily insulin shots. Initially, like a plane zooming down the runway, he had a lot of energy and impulsion to take care of himself.

Incoming Telephone Referrals and Customer Conversions
About the best incoming phone call a small-business person can get is one, which comes from referral from a happy customer. This means that the person on the phone is friends with or has an acquaintance with someone who already does business with that small company. And if the person they are doing business with was not happy they would've gave a terrible review instead of a wonderful review which prompted the new potential customer to call the first place. It is important for small-business owners to recognize these calls when they come in and make sure that they handle them properly because these will be future customers. Some small businesses, which fail to recognize these

Should A Writer Grow Internet Presence - Pros And Cons
-THE ISSUES-Should you spend all your time possible on ‘writing a damn good novel?’ Or should you also spend time to see if you can develop a following in one of the Internet venues, such as MySpace, youtube, podcasting or writing an almost daily blog?Should you start getting a following now on the Internet of those who like what you say? Or wait possibly years while you write and rewrite an eventually successful novel, should that ever truly happen? We see from the following excerpts from comments on a writer’s forum the issues highlighted in the commentator’s own words.-FROM A WRITER’S FORUM-A Wanna-Be-Published Writer: I have a page on myspace which

Secret 3: Put Yourself in Places of Potential

Once you have clearly defined your inspiring why for your goal then finally you need to put yourself in places of potential. Places where the people, circumstances and events will enhance your capability.

Mark Victor Hansen tells a story that several years ago he was presenting at a seminar with Tony Robbins and he asked Tony "You know, we both teach the same stuff and we both do a terrific job how come your income is $31 million per year and mine is only $1 million?".

Tony replied, "How much do the people you hang out with earn?"

    Mark: "$1 million".

    Tony: "There's your answer".

Mark pretty soon started hanging out with billionaires. You are susceptible to influence in a myriad of ways, some you will be conscious of and some will be very clever in its subtlety.

Reduce your exposure to the people or events that de-motivate you and maximise your exposure to people and events that inspire and uplift you. This could be as simple as turning on a piece of music that connects you immediately with a time when you were very, very successful.

Hot Tip: Look at the people who surround you. Are they working for or against you? Are they positive, uplifting, moving forward people or are they people who are inclined to want to smother your dreams?

If you are hanging around 'negative nellies' minimize your exposure to them. Better yet get away from and their influence them as fast as you can.

If you are committed to yourself and your dreams then apply each of the tips above, they will set you well on the pathway to success.
