No Barriers: An Aging Population Breathes New Life Into Entrepreneurialism
“Age is no barrier. It's a limitation you put on your mind.” - AnonymousWe’ve all seen the hamster running in the wheel. He’s going nowhere, but he’s fast. Quitting wrinkles the soul.” - Douglas MacArthurThe Chrysalis Corporation notes that, “Starting in 2012, nearl

No I don’t mean it’s between arteries or anything like that. Your answer is in your very being and it has been there since before birth. It became manifested as you grew. God (or the Higher Power as some prefer to say) has blessed you with several gifts. Unfortunately, some folks never learned how to discover them. But they are there. That is why you will hear a teacher, parent, or buddy say “hey you are really good at that.” They are not just saying some nice words. You have demonstrated and they have noticed. So how do you discover the gifts within you thru introspection? I have a story that I believe will help you. I know it helped me.

A friend was at a baseball game doing some research for a paper that he needed to write for a Psychology class. He approached several boys on the team in order to discover why they were playing on the baseball team. Sounds simple enough, correct? He was expecting every member he spoke with to tell him the obvious that the player loved playing baseball. To his surprise, that was not the case and he proceeded to learn Motivation 101.

Tommy, the star centerfielder on the team, was thrilled to be playing because he got to wear his favorite player, Adam Dunn’s, number. My friend queried him further and Tommy told him that he was not going to play if he would not be allowed to wear that number.

Josh was the very good catcher on the team. One would figure that he would answer that he loved baseball and wanted to be like the famous Pudge Rodriguez. Surprise! He likes playing baseball because he could direct player telling them where to play, calling the pitches, etc. Baseball was the vehicle that allowed him to pursue what really motivated him.

Jerry played a terrific shortstop and he didn’t want to be like any big league player in particular. He was playing because he liked helping the coach get the bats, balls, and equipment ready for the game, and straightening everything after the game ended.

Project Management - Winning the Project
The big day has arrived, the day on which your customer decides which of the competing bidders has won his new project. As the Project Manager, you may or may not be the first to hear the news. Customers work differently. Sometimes a member of the customer’s staff, or more than one, will “whisper” the news to his opposite number in the bidding company and sometimes full protocol will be observed, with a formal communication being sent from the customer’s Contracts Manager to your Commercial Manager. Either way, the Project Manager will be one
ng the pitches, etc.

Lastly, Zack, who has been an All Star pitcher for the last couple of years, enjoys playing because he gets to wear a uniform. He feels very important being the center of attention.

Oh yeah! All the boys kind of like playing baseball but they are not playing it because they want to be big leaguer, necessarily.

Now think about what I have just written. Tommy likes to be the celebrity of life. God (the Higher Power for those who choose) only knows that this boy may be on stage some day. Jerry, although a terrific shortstop, likes organization and order. Perhaps he will be an Administrative Director someday. On the other hand, Zack like being notice and the added importance of wearing a uniform. Do we have a Green Beret, Policeman, Postman, Fireman, or other professional in the making? I almost forgot about Josh. He likes giving directions and orders. Do we have a coach, administrator, or military leader in the making?

Obviously, there can be more speculation about what these boys may become, but the point is that the God (yes, I said His name again) has given them gifts/talents. As they age, they can look back on their youth in order to rediscover what they liked best as they matured. And this brings us back to you who thought you were confused.

My recommendation to you is to take a blank sheet of paper, or use your computer notepad, and think back over your lifetime of things you enjoyed doing, people you enjoyed being with, clubs and social activities you belonged to, etc. Then ask yourself why you enjoyed them. Go deep. Your passions in life will tell you who you are and the career where you will find the most success. And let’s face it; success is one facet of happiness on this planet.

I hope that this will help at least one of you out in internet land. When you find out your WHYS, they will help you find the Where to apply your gifts.
