Ethical Choices: Spiritual Consequences monetary goal for each of your first five years in business. And all this must be done before publishing your first issue.
Twenty-one years ago I made a choice. At the time it seemed so simple and insignificant. I sat there with three questions as I pondered the “opportunity”: Who would know? Who would care? And the cost – what cost? Little did I know at the time that every, literally every, choice has a consequence. That is a universal law – a spiritual law – that governs us all…just like gravity.Anyone that knew me, at the time, would have said that I was basically an honest and ethical person. I was respected in my community, a community and civic leader, active in my church, serving as music director. No one, not even I, would have suspected that ten years later that I would be an inmate in Federal Prison.Have you ever found yourself over-extended? I did and I admit that I liked that lifestyle. The only problem was my bank account couldn’t support that lifestyle. This became the groundwork for the seed to be planted.Throughout our lives, in fact many times during our lives, we are faced with temptations. It is not the temptation that's the issue; it's how we respond to it that defines us. In my case, I was more concerned with maintaining the illusion of success than I was with my own honesty and integrity. After one Christmas, some twenty years ago, I received a call from my local banker, who said, “Chuck, we noticed that you're behind in your house payment. Is their problem?” Now, being a successful tax partner in a CPA firm, I certainly did not want to appear to be incapable of managing my own money. So, of course, I suggested that his records were wrong and asked him to check again. The reality was, however, I was behind.I had a problem. I needed money! Then, it hit me. I was the trustee of a trust. Why not borrow money from the trust? So, I put on my trustee hat. I looked at myself and said, “Don't you need to borrow some money?” And as I took my trustee hat off, I replied, “Why, yes I do.” And with that little interchange, I stole money from the trust and changed my life forever. I planted the seed into the groundwork I laid.Have you ever had one of those moments in your life, when you wish you could just rewind the tape? You wish you could just do it over? That was one of those moments. The fact is, when you make a choice, you have to accept the consequences. By my choice, I set the consequence in motion. Therefore, I called the banker back, and apologizing profusely said, “My wife pays the bills. Considering this was our first Christmas with our new son, she must've just overlooked the house payment. I'll make sure you receive it today.” Of course, I took the stolen money and made the payment.Three months later, I paid b Most newsletter publishers do all the work themselves, and are impatient to get the first issue into print. Any business that does not give customers VIP service will be out of business before they realize it. One of my clients went to buy a new car from a local dealer she knew personally through the business community. She called ahead to explain what she wanted but, when she got there he kept her waiting. He did not have the make she requested, and suggested she check back with him tomorrow. She did, and did again the following day, and the day after that. Three days later he told her he could get the model she wanted in six weeks, but only if she chose a different color. She contacted another dealership. Within an hour, they had located the car she wanted in the color she wanted. They even offered to pick it up for her and they offered her a better price, with better financing, with a friendly customer service attitude and the efficiency she was looking for.The second car dealership got her business because it was responsive to her needs, the staff treated her with respect, and made her priority their priority. Often, when people call with an immediate need, they are made to feel that their request is an inconvenience, that any help they might receive is a big favor and a burden. The truth of today's marketplace is that everyone wants everything yesterday. Keep and beat the time frames your clients request to keep them coming back time after time, singing your praises.Discover Their Other Needs and Help Fill Them One of the things my coaching and cor To be successful with newsletter, you have to specialize. I am a young professional who has had a difficult time fitting into the mold of the working professional. I am a creative, free-spirited twenty-something and I have felt like an alien in office environments. Everyone around me is a few decades older than I am and I see and feel the difference more easily between myself and the other women. Most of the women I work with are from a completely different generation and it shows. I feel as though I am surrounded by cutouts from the nineteen-fifties. They look the part and speak with a softness that can only have come from a time that women were meant to be quiet. I am not like these women and there is an obvious disconnect between us.I used to wear a pair of converse shoes every single day. I began wearing them in middle school and wore them all the waythrough college. Wearing converse shoes was almost a personality trait of mine or at least they seemed to signal to otherswhat kind of personality I had.I have worn my converse shoes to the office on more than a few occasions. I have gotten disapproving looks from the older women who must not appreciate what converse shoes stand for. I don’t think that I can really encapsulate what their symbolicmeaning is, but for those in the know, it goes without saying.I think that it is kind of disappointing that we still put so much emphasis on appearance. If I am smart and do my job well it should not matter if I want to wear converse shoes. I should be praised for my individuality and refusal to conform to the constraining expectations of the business world. I think a big part of my problem is the fact that I live in the Midwest. It takes several years for social or cultural movements to make it out this far and when they do we often turn our backs on them.I won’t give up on my converse shoes. When I have found a place where I can show up to work in them, I will have truly arrived. I hope that the kids of my generation will retain their sense ofself, whatever that means, and not let any job or paycheck talk them out of it. I, for one, am currently a hypocrite and unable to say goodbye to one of the few decent jobs in my area in an attempt to stand up for myself. Perhaps I too have become the subdued woman, just in a newer generation. Lay out your start up needs; detail the length of time it's going to take to become established, and what will be involved in becoming established. And all this must be done before publishing your first issue.
Secret Shoppers are people hired by companies to evaluate the quality of work and customer service in a particular industry. A secret shopper works freelance and anonymously, posing as a normal everyday shopper, and submit a report to the management at the end of the day. Secret Shoppers are usually employed by large retail, department stores, restaurants, manufacturers and theaters etc.The most important key to a successful business setup is customer satisfaction. The profit of a company that produces consumer goods significantly depends upon the type and quality of service it provides to customers. Studies have confirmed that only 5% of unsatisfied customers register complaints, while 95% simply stop doing business. That is why the role of the Secret Shopper has gained much importance in recent years.Secret Shoppers, also commonly known as Mystery Shoppers will normally keep questionnaires or report sheets in which they have to fill in answers to detailed questions asked about their shopping experience. These feedbacks enable the management to make crucial employment decisions, evaluate performance, the degree of adherence to standards and quality of customer care.Secret Shopping can be a great part time job because it normally pays well ($20.00 to over $40 for a particular assignment) and you get to take home many free products and gifts. Moreover, companies seldom ask for work experience though it may be a plus point when applying for the job. Since the feedback information provided to employers is so important to them, they also usually pay bonuses to Secret Shoppers who perform well in their jobs. With only about 5 to 10 working hours a week, many people have taken up this job because it’s one of the most convenient ways to earn a little extra cash. Most newsletter publishers do all the work themselves, and are impatient to get the first issue into print. As a result, they neglect to devote the proper amount of time to the market research and distribution. Don't start your newsletter without first having accomplished this task! Market research is simply determining who the people are who will be interested in buying and reading your newsletter, and the kind of information these people want to see in your newsletter as a reason for continuing to buy it. You have to determine what it is they want form your newsletter. Your market research must give you unbiased answers about your newsletter's capabilities of fulfilling your prospective buyer's need for information; how much he's willing to pay for it, and an overall profile of his status in life. The questions of why he needs your information, and how he'll use it should be answered. Make sure you have the answers to these questions, publish you newsletter as a vehicle of fulfilment to these needs, and you're on your way! You're going to be in trouble unless your newsletter has a real point of difference that can easily be perceived by your prospective buyer. The design and graphics of your newsletter, plus what you say and how you say it, will help in giving your newsletter this vital difference. Be sure your newsletter works with the personality you're trying to build for it. Make sure it reflects the wants of your subscribers. Include your advertising promise within the heading, on the title page, and in the same words your advertising uses. And above all else, don't skimp on design or graphics! The name of your newsletter should also help to set it apart form similar newsletters, and spell out its advertising promise. A good name reinforces your advertising. Choose a name that defines the direction and scope of your newsletter. Opportunity Knocking, Money Making Magic, Extra Income Tip Sheet, and Mail Order Up Date are prime examples of this type of philosophy...as opposed to the Johnson Report, The Association Newsletter, or Clubhouse Confidential. Try to make your newsletter's name memorable...one that flows automatically. Don't pick a name that's so vague it could apply to almost anything. The name should identify your newsletter and its subject quickly and positively. Pricing your newsletter should be consistent with the image you're trying to build. If you're starting a "Me-too" newsletter, never price it above the competition. In most instances, the consumer associates higher prices with quality, so if you give your readers better quality information in an expensive looking package, don't hesitate to ask for a premium price.
