Inspiring them to contribute more requires a thorough understanding of their driving forces or passion in life. Without passion there is no enthusiasm making these activities mundane work completed just to meet the job requirements. The problem is these workers are not contributing to business growth – they are only maintaining the current position. You must turn ordinary into extraordinary.

    Extraordinary employees are extraordinary because they have been able to fulfill their drive or passion in life with what they are doing. A good manager recognizes this then learns and understands individual passions in order to connect them with job responsibilities. It opens the door to finding a mutually agreeable solution to poor motivation and it confirms to the employee that you value them and are interested in their growth as well as business profits.

    This was one of the least liked responsibilities as a manager. After years of struggling with interviews and performance evaluations the realization that the job or responsibilities must be “sold” to an employee changed the progress of these meetings. A different view of employees was adopted envisioning them as customers instead of workers. They are in actuality customers of the business but in a different capacity – they are purchasing a paycheck in exchange for their services.
