It’s amazing to me how many ‘leaders’ there are in the world today who have no real, positive influence into people lives. They are in positions of leadership but allow the position to intoxicate them in such a way that they forget that they have the ability to actually impact people and to help them become everything that they can be.

How many times have you known a leader, whether they are a boss, politician, figure- head, or sports icon that, when you meet them, are rude, arrogant, and give you the impression that the world revolves around them? You have to understand that being a leader doesn’t mean that you are in a position where you are to be served by humanity for the rest of your life. Actually, you are in a position where you should be serving humanity by paving the way for other people, enabling them to reach their own full potential.

By contrast, have you have met a leader that, when you are around them, they go out of their way to make you feel like you are the most important person in the room? This is a true leader with influence, the influence to impart to people the feelings of worth, respect, and belief in oneself.

I think there is a great analogy of this in what Samuel Adams once said. He said that, ‘...it does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds...’ In other words, you don’t have to be a leader who shows off their influence with a bunch of pomp and circumstance, rather show your influence to each individual you come across by lighting a brush fire in their mind about how much potential that they have on the inside of them. Make more of an effort to be keen to the lives of other people than you are about yours.
