The Ripple Effect - You Really Do Make a Difference
Have you ever thrown a flat rock across a body of water and watched it transform into a bunch of ripples? That's the impact my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Jordan, had on my life when she uttered three words so many years ago. (see article "The Power of Three Words - THAT'S RIGHT STEPHEN!").One of the most requested speeches I do nowadays contains the story of the day she said those words. She never knew the impact of those three words until many years later when I surprise
”. You could talk until you were blue in the face in an attempt to change beliefs without, in the end, making a lick of difference. Because as much as we might TRY to hear you, the belief, being formed as part of the survival map way back in infancy, has a stronger hold on the physical being – and is operating on a level far deeper than our current awareness (subconscious). The ONLY way for understanding to take place is experiential, and that requires a willingness to stay self-aware. What’s more, we need to take the step of faith or trust FIRST before courage comes. In the act of stepping into the unknown, come the wings that we need to fly – but who amongst us is gonna step anywhere NEAR the brink of ou

So yes, at all times we are whole and complete and already enlightened. This might be how some of us attain enlightenment in an instant – of course! But letting go of what we “know” to be true, and what we “believe” to be essential to our safety and security feels like a very risky business – to no longer hold on to a sense of ourselves as “right” in any way; to give up all sense of superiority and make no judgements whatsoever – to the so-called grown-up in us this can feel tremendously frightening; leave us at the mercy of “all that bad stuff out there” so to speak. (Could THIS be what He meant when He said, “Turn the other cheek”?)

That’s why for infants this is a no-brainer – their very nature starts out as trusting. They are open to all that is, as it is. They are open to feeling frustration, triumph, disappointment, happiness, sorrow – all that which is a part of the physical world – the emotions just are, and for babies they come, they are honoured by being felt, and they are let go by being expressed.

As children become older in the world, these expressions are modified to fit their survival needs – what the caregivers around them allow as being OK or not OK. So to a greater or lesser extent we shape our self-awareness – or contort it – as a trade off for how safe we need to feel. Wow. There’s so much more, but I feel I have the gist.

More and more I am remembering to BE the focus from within, regardless of what seems to be happening from without… and the more I remember to hold my focus from within the more it happens without my needing to remind myself… How does all this come about “merely” by entraining my brain waves, and allowing my self to expand into an inner space, to sink as deeply as I am able? What do brain waves have to do with “enlightenment”? Is this to do with the brain, or the activity of the brain – namely thinking – being that which obscures? Is that why sages and gurus say that knowledge is not enlightenment; that the pursuit of knowledge might very well block the path to enlightenment? But if I hadn’t known stuff from reading Caroline Myss, Eckhart Tolle and others, and if I didn’t know the tenets of Jin Shin Jyutsu, how would I have been able to interpret what was happening and make the necessary adjustments to gain the insight?

I’ve also read that all there is to be known is already within; there is nothing we do not know. Maybe our false knowledge prevents us from seeing this. Who was it that said, “It ain’t what we KNOW that’s the problem, it’s what we KNOW that ain’t so!”

Like those who KNOW life is out to get them; love is treacherous; lovers and spouses will be unfaithful if they get a chance; people of colour are less than people “without colour”; rich people are unscrupulous; dogs and cats don’t go to heaven; and children need “to know their place”. You could talk until you were blue in the face in an attempt to change beliefs without, in the end, making a lick of difference. Women And There Obsession With The Scale
Far too often, I hear women complain after starting to workout with weights that their body weight is not going down or may even be going up a bit. What these women have to understand, especially thin women is that they are now adding on quality muscle which initially will add body weight or prevent them from losing weight. This is because muscle has significant weight value. However, in the long term women who workout with weights will be better off than those that
