Booting A New Business - On The Software Development Highway
BackgroundThose amongst us, who were born at least before 1970, must have witnessed the dotcom boom of the late 1990s, as well as seen and been affected by the bust that followed soon enough. When the boom began, the media was inundated, day in and day out, with news of dream tie-ups between venture capitalists and just-out-of-college, still-wet-behind-the-ears young twenty-something boys and girls. The entire dream was woven around what the internet could do for folks like you and me. And when the boom busted, boy! How it busted! A quick review of the top ten dotcom businesses that gobbled up millions of VC dollars and took them down the drain really makes interesting, if introspective, reading.A few years down the line, and the next generation of entrepreneurs and businessmen are ready, yet again, to take the software hi

Top Seven Common Mistakes Found in Car Classifieds Ads
The number of people today posting used car classifieds ads shows an upward spiral. Looking at the used car classifieds they write and guessing the amounts they spend to advertise their product (used car), one will naturally wonder how these people sell their car for a decent price. By closely following the ads, one can find more than 80% of the classified ads make one or more of the seven mistakes listed below.1. Not Describing the CarWhile writing used car classifieds, classic car classifieds or muscle car classifieds, a lot of people tend to miss out the exact model name and year of manufacture in the ad. Include such details in a positive manner and it doesn't take too many words.2. Not Leaving a Phone NumberMany people who write used car classifieds today think they can manage their used car sale with just an e
Marketing and its little brother advertising are all about storytelling. It doesn't matter if you are talking about a display ad for a magazine or a Web-video for your website or for a Google Video Ad, if it doesn't tell a story then it's not going to do the job.

When people asked us what we did, we used to tell them we were a website design firm that specialized in audio and video, today we tell them we are corporate storytellers. If you aren't telling your story you are not going to meet your marketing goals.

If you want to know how to tell your corporate story well, or even if you want to hire someone to do it for you, you at least need to know what makes a good story; and the best place to learn is the home of storytelling, Ho

What Ever Happened to Customer Service?
In my humble opinion, the number one issue a company should be paying attention to is customer service. But it seems more and more that getting the sale is taking priority over making the customer happy. Below are several examples of poor service – how would your company handled each of these circumstances?I ordered file cabinets from Staples through their on-line store and was given a specific delivery date that their trucking company would deliver. The promised day came and went with no phone call to me to let me know there was a delay. The trucking company had very specific directions to my place of business, they had my phone number and I was sitting here all day waiting for them to show up. Even though Staples was using a local delivery service that was located less than 50 miles from my place of business and had in their poss

    Who Me, Difficult? Yes, You!
We all like to think we are easy to get along with. We don't make our co-workers lives difficult. But, chances are, if you find some of your co-workers hard to work with, someone will find you a challenge, too.You are not a challenge because you intentionally decided to be. In fact, the attributes and skills you consider to be your best strengths may be the very ones someone else finds difficult to deal with.See if you can find yourself in one (or more!) of the following profiles:* You call it decisive, they call you a steam roller. You are the kind of person who can make quick decisions. You size up situations quickly, see the best alternative, and then take action. No use waiting around, you tell yourself and co-workers. They are swept up and away by your pace. They are sti

    Time Clocks
Ever since the Industrial Revolution, employee time has been monitored, controlled and managed to preserve the interests of the enterprise. It has also been used in motivational programs as negative and positive reinforcements. In today’s modern setting, the concept of employee time is challenged by principles such as in time (or JIT) and flexi-time. Nevertheless, the need to keep track of employee performance is keeping time clocks alive in factories, offices, and other work areas.Modern Time ClocksTo keep pace with the fast moving economic and industrial environment, traditional bundy clocks have long been replaced by electronic time clocks. This modern version harnesses the advancements in information technology and incorporates them in time keeping. Time clocks these days not only record time, they generate reports and analyz

D.I.Y. Production II - Production Costs
In the previous article I gave you some pointers on selecting a vendor for production. Another very close tie-in to vendor selection is price. As the client you need to watch your budget and as your design firm we design with those costs in mind. However, even when both client and firm have the best intentions on staying within a budget we must weigh project features against costs and make some tough choices.1. Let your design firm handle it. Seriously, when conceptualizing we design for the sky and scale back at a latter stage unless we are already bound by a low number at the start of a project. We know as we get closer to production we may need to cut out some finishing details in order to come through under the budget wire. We may take a special spot varnish away or determine a special metallic ink that costs extra can be done in th

    Learn From The Experts

If you want to learn how to tell your corporate story on the Web using video, you could do worse than reading Blake Snyder's book, "Save The Cat.'
