You are left to produce your own work and will not have someone looking over your shoulder.Do you have a good grasp of the English language? You will need to have a good understanding of English and grammar. Grammar you could learn through a class, but if you hav

Growing companies must always be ready for the next challenge. If you fail in meeting critical business challenges you will not grow. Challenges often require some type of breakthrough. But do not be misled. A business breakthrough does not have to be something no one has thought of – it just needs to be a solution to your problem that you can act on now. Breakthroughs may involve simply finding the solution to a common, nagging problem or it may be nurturing a more complex way of thinking. We all must be ready and observant of breakthrough opportunities. What keeps us from moving forward can easily be overcome by incorporating one or all of the following tips. There is nothing magical about growing a business – it just takes the right effort.

Tip #1 Encourage sales training that is not selling

Insist on learning from all personnel beyond their functional area. Learning should not be limited to top managers. Yes, employees may receive a lot of training, but it is usually limited to how to do their job. The more they know and understand general business concepts and specific operational issues, the easier it is to provide input and answers to business challenges. This does not mean that everyone needs to become experts in strategy, leadership, finances, marketing, sales, operations, distribution … but as they learn a little about each category and then more in the areas that interest them, the better able they will be

Perception is Real; Reality is Not
What a play on words! It may first appear that way, but I assure you, in the real world, it is an absolutely true statement that you should memorize and repeat daily.Reality may at times confuse our senses. We have all been entertained or confused by optical illusions that trick our eyes into seeing things that may not actually be there. We have witnessed a ventriloquist throwing his voice or making sounds appearing to be emanating from a particular source, distant from where we might have expected. Have you had the experience where you were not certain if something was either extremely hot or cold to your touch? While traveling through a mountainous area, are you always certain whether you are going up or down a slope? If you smell asparagus while chewing green beans, you will certainly believe that you are eat

Dangerous Careers May Call for More Life Insurance
Not many people like to think about death; actually, most people probably prefer to avoid the topic altogether. Sometimes death comes with old age. Grandparents are usually quite old when they pass on, and because of their age, it’s no real shock when they do. Sometimes death comes with shocking tragic accidents, such as automobile crashes, home-related disasters, and crime. And, sometimes death accompanies illness and disease. So, we urge our elders to take care of themselves. We remind our spouses to drive carefully. We warn our children to stay away from strangers. And we try to make sure we, and everyone in our lives, avoid contracting illnesses and diseases. But how many of us worry about the safety of ourselves, our family members, and our friends at our careers? Beyond just the safety of the commu

What's the Story With Those Thank You Notes?
So you got through the research of preparing for the interview, the drama of the actual interview itself, and next on your list is a trip to Friendly’s for a huge ice cream sundae to celebrate your impending success. But wait a minute—you suddenly remember that you must send a Thank you note to your interviewer, and everyone whose hand you touched at the company, within 24 hours of the interview (if not sooner) or suffer the consequences of interminable unemployment. You then spend the next 2 hours trying desperately to find a stationary store, a good pen, and a post office. Here’s the real deal on the thank you note from an employer. They are very nice to receive. They can be the icing on the cake if a company sees you as the perfect candidate. Have I hired people who haven’t sent me a thank you note?

Are You Revealing Your Lack of Ethics and Ultimately Lack of Business Results as a Business Coach?
Every Monday night a group of 7 committed individuals who are considered to be business coaches, executive coaches and business consultants meet via teleconferencing to mastermind. During these 90 minute masterminding sessions, weekly successes and missed opportunities are shared. We learn so much from each other. For reinventing the wheel is truly a waste of time. The mental energy and output from this masterminding process is incredible, but the email threads that are shared provided even greater opportunity for reflection and learning. One of the coaches revealed a conversation that he had with another business coach who belonged to a local chapter of a national coaching association.During their conversation, the other coach made the statement that "executive or business coaches who coach other busines

This does not mean that everyone needs to become experts in strategy, leadership, finances, marketing, sales, operations, distribution … but as they learn a little about each category and then more in the areas that interest them, the better able they will be to provide a valuable contribution. Do not encourage sales personnel to only learn about selling. Remember that learning comes in all forms and does not have to be provided by the organization – reading publications, taking seminars, listening to subject matter authorities, observing the successful etc.

Tip #2 It is not about your weaknesses

We tend to concentrate on what is wrong and ignore what is right. It is surprising how many managers are unable to identify the top three strengths of their organization. If you have not uncovered the company’s true strengths - what you do better than most - then how can you take these strengths and apply them to other aspects of the operation? Knowing your strengths is just the beginning. Understanding how you got there and why you are able to excel in a particular area is what will allow you to duplicate these assets. This should not be limited to the “top” strengths of the organization. Break down what you do well by division, function, even by individual. Share with others and teach where necessary. Be fruitful and multiply – applying your strengths to all aspects of your business.
