The requirements of this rule, which are basically information security best practices, focus on the three cornerstones of a solid information security infrastructure: confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. The HIPAA regulatory requirements encompass transmission, storage and discoverability of Protected Health Information (PHI). Given the widespread use and mission-critical nature of email, enforcement of HIPAA encryption policies and the growing demand for secure email solutions, email security has never been more important to the healthcare industry than it is right now.Although many assume it applies only to health care providers, HIPAA affects nearly all companies that regularly transmit or store employee health insurance information. As Internet use became more widespread in the mid-to-late 1990s, HIPAA requirements overlapped with the digital revolution and offered direction to organizations needing to exchange healthcare information.HIPAA in the Workplace Collaboration between employers and healthcare professionals has grown increasingly digital, and email has played an ever-increasing role in this communication. However, email’s increased importance can lead to severe consequences without proper security and privacy measures implemented. In addition to the usual concerns about privacy and security of email correspondence, even organizations that are not in the healthcare industry must now consider the regulatory compliance requirements associated with HIPAA. The Administrative Simplification section of HIPAA, which, among other things, mandates privacy and security of Protected Health Informatio Today, businesses are dealing with massive change issues spearheaded by new strategic initiatives around t Keeping Team Meetings Vibrant "Without the chance to meaningfully participate in steering one’s own destiny, without the opportunity to gain the sincere respect of one’s own peers, without an honest stake in making the community more successful through one’s own work and ideas, employability can quickly decay into generic training programs or bogus choices..." --"Beyond Empowerment: Building a Company of Citizens" by Brook Manville, Josiah Ober, page 52, Harvard Business Review January 2003.Meetings can be the life-blood of an organisation or the death. It all depends how you approach them.People need to communicate – that’s a fact, and it’s not enough to do it over computers. At some point a face-to-face is needed to ensure full understanding on key items, and there’s a bonding and rapport between colleagues that is often taken for granted. But for something so important to the operational health of an organisation why do so many meetings produce negative feelings and little in the way of results? Why do people keep going to meetings that they know will be a waste of time? Surely there must be a solution to meeting madness? The key is to involve people and encourage sharing ideas and building on possible solutions. When you set up the meeting so that every individual feels valued and involved then you can only succeed. When the Chairman produces the agenda and assumes that this is the central focus for the meeting you are likely to alienate attendees. At one blue-chip company they resolved this problem by asking everyone to bring their ‘personal unwritten agenda’ to the meeting for discussion. The result was that everyone felt involved and began working for the higher purpose and not their own personal needs and concerns. It is possible! We've put together an e-book containing many ideas and tips to keep your meetings relevant, productive and vibrant. Each of them provides a different perspective of how an entity is operating. Combined, they show examiners the health of the business. Each statement reflects a different perspective on the business' financial operations. The first statement, the Profit and Loss, can also be called the Income Statement. It documents the amount of money coming into the entity (the income) and the money going out of the entity (the expenses). The difference between what comes in and what goes out is the Net Income, if there is more money coming in than going out. If not, there is a Net Loss. The statement covers a specific period, which is shown in the heading of the statement. Note that it tells us nothing about what has happened for any date that is not included by the statement dates. The Balance Sheet reveals three important business characteristics: (1) it summarizes the assets owned by the entity (e.g., buildings, bank accounts, inventory, etc.); (2) the entity liabilities (e.g., loans, outstanding bills, etc.); and (3) the business owners' equity. The statement is arranged in what is called the 'accounting equation', which indicates total Assets will equal the sum of Liabilities and Equity. Balance Sheets are commonly issued at the same frequency as the Profit and Loss and usually reflect the business on the last day of the Profit and Loss period. Finally, the Sources and Uses Statement reveals how the business received and used funds during the statement period.
