    ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition that is principally displayed through the symptoms of inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. These behaviors can lead to an impaired ability to learn, however this should not be confused with learning disorders, ADHD is a separate condition altogether.

    ADHD and learning disabilities are normally diagnosed in children under 7. This is because they have started school and the behaviors that parents have gotten used to are highlighted when children join a class of 25 or so other children.

    Types of ADHD There are 3 types of ADHD, each displaying its focus of symptoms manifested.

    Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
    Often fidgets and struggles to sit still.
    Inappropriate running about or climbing
    Engages in loud playing and struggles with quiet activities
    Excessive talking.
    Will interrupt to answer questions
    Impatient
    Interrupts others games or conversations

    Predominantly Inattentive Type
    These children tend to classed as daydreamers and can experience problems focusing on tasks.
    The following traits are common
    Lack of attention to detail and careless mistakes are often made
    Can lose interest in tasks or play
    Can appear to not be listening when spoken to
    Instructions aren’t always carried out and many tasks are left incomplete, although not because they haven’t understood or are trying to be difficult.
    Can find organizing tasks and activities difficult.
    Generally avoids tasks that require sustained levels of effort
    Can lose items regularly
    Is easily distracted
    Is often forgetful of the next steps in daily activities

    Combined Type
    These children display a mixture of the other two types.

    Learning disabilities is a group of disorders which is related to the inability of a person to interpret the inputs of the environment and link the information from one part of the brain to another.

    There are two main categories of L.D’s - developmental speech and language disorders and academic skill disorders.

    Within these high level categories there are differing diagnosis. Academic disorders tend to include conditions like Dyslexia, which effects a persons ability to read, dysgraphia where they have difficulty in writing and dyscalculia which involves inverting numbers. Developmental speech and language disorders include expressive language disorder and receptive language disorder.
