Casual Articles - Choosing the Christian Path
Why You Don't Need An MBA to Make It in Business (In Fact It Could Hurt You) ation. We may unwittingly judge others simply as "Christians," using our limited exposure to one or two sects as our justification for our belief that "Christians are narrow-minded" or "Christians are anti-New Age." This is the equivalent of someone deciding that anyone who believes in God is "just like the Muslims" or "just like the Wiccans" or "just like the Universalists." If we truly want to create a world where people live together in harmony, then we must begin with the basics, and one of those basics is not only A common reason people choose NOT to go into business is that they feel they don't have the right training or background. There's this myth out there that if you haven't studied accounting, marketing, and operations management on some college campus somewhere with vines growing on buildings and professors in tweed jackets, you don't have what it takes to succeed.Bah! Humbug!Jim McCann, the CEO of 1-800-Flowers, built a billion dollar a year business, and his background was that he had worked for 14 years as a social worker in Brooklyn at a group home for teenage boys.So how does a guy who's working in a group home as a social worker end up as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country, with no formal training or background in business? He used what he had. What do I mean?He said, quote, "I learned more from those 10 young teenage boys in that group home, who would have been in jail if they didn't come to us, than I could have in a 100 years at the Harvard MBA program."If you've never been around a group home for troublesome teenage boys, you might imagine what it'd be like. Things tend to break more often, "disappear" more often, fights break out, drugs, despair...it can be pretty ugly. And all you're trying to do is help them see the value and worth in their lives. But Jim soon found out that teenage boys are about as excited about "counseling" sessions as they are about math class. So as things The Number One Secret to Internet Marketing Success - 147.5 million Americans claim affiliation with a religious groupThe number one rule in internet marketing is: Target your market. This is good advice. If you don't know who your target market is, you will have a lot of trouble selling your products or services. However, before you can determine who your target market is, you need to know who your competition is.My Mom always told me, "Actions speak louder than words". What she was saying is that you can listen to what other people are saying, but if you really want to know what they are really thinking, you need to watch what they are doing.A lot has been said about internet marketing gurus, and how they will never tell you their real secrets to internet marketing. If they did, you could easily become their competition. You don't have to reinvent the wheel, just market better, and offer more value. This is how you put your competition out of business.I believe this is true. I also know that many of the top named internet marketing "gurus" took offline marketing techniques, adapted them to the internet, and used these techniques to catapult them to success. They also continue to use the same techniques offline.Understanding what your competition is really doing is your first, and most important step, to success. So, how do you get started?First, you need to do a search in the search engines. I use Alexa for this because Alexa delivers a lot more information about websites than standard search engines. To me, Alexa is a mark - 94% of those who claim affiliation are members of Christian or quasi-Christian denominations Every culture offers every opportunity for evaluation on the part of the individual as to whether the spiritual beliefs which that culture encompasses are spiritual beliefs that are comfortable for the individual living within it; it is a matter of conscious choice on the part of every individual in every lifetime to decide for themselves whether the doctrine that is being taught - the doctrine that is predominant throughout the culture - is a doctrine that 'rings true' for their inner self. In many cases, individuals have found that the doctrine advocated by the Christian sect which constituted their upbringing did not 'pass the test' of meeting the requirements for being the spiritual foundation on which their lives were based, and - as a result - many individuals have turned their backs on the Christian faith that dominates their society. In some areas, a 'cold war' has been declared, with Christians condemning free thinkers as 'false prophets of God' and free thinkers condemning Christians as 'narrow-minded and judgmental.' From both directions, this separationist attitude is inappropriate and against the Universal Law of Acceptance, which recognizes both the right and the responsibility of every individual to live their life according to their own personal truth. In an all too human need to justify our negative attitudes towards each other, both sides prefer to focus into the 'negative aspects' of the other's belief system. We can only bridge the gap if we are willing to move beyond our emotional need to feel that 'we are right and they are wrong' and come to recognize and respect the positive aspects of all belief systems - including Christianity. Modern society has a tendency to 'categorize' groups of people by race or religion. We seldom take the time to look beneath the surface to explore the differences that make for individual truth within an umbrella spiritual foundation. I was once a multi-millionaire on paper. The after-tax value of my stock options if I had the chance of exercising them was more than two million dollars. And guess what happened, two millions became zilch, nada, after the stock market crashed. I didn’t see a dime or a penny out of it.The stock market bubble was such an emotional experience for me and my colleagues at work. Although I knew that the dramatic rise of NASDAQ to above 5000 in such a short time in 2000 was not sustainable, there was not a day that went by without me wishing secretly that I could cash out my stock options. After all, it’s money. And it’s A LOT of money. My anxiety actually began even before I started working for the dot com company. I hoped to begin my first day at my new company when the stock price of my new company was lower so that my option strike price (which would have been the market price) could be lower. I waited, and timed the market. I was almost making my new boss annoyed by not signing myself into the new company after I got the job offer. After the first sign of the market weakness, I made my inter-state move. Then I lived in my friend’s house, and kept waiting still for a good entry. With the high volatility of the stock market in 2000, the stock price of my new company was soon 20% under In many cases, individuals have found that the doctrine advocated by the Christian sect which constituted their upbringing did not 'pass the test' of meeting the requirements for being the spiritual foundation on which their lives were based, and - as a result - many individuals have turned their backs on the Christian faith that dominates their society. Only 20% said that they were prepared for rising rates and had no plans to change their loan products.Well's Fargo found that homeowners are looking forward to rising home price appreciation, despite the slowing of price increases across the country.Ten percent said that they believe their homes will increase significantly in value over the next few years. Fifty-three percent said they will see "a little" appreciation, while 27% expect no change.Over 70% of the respondents said that they consider the equity in their homes as their most important investment.According to Freddie Mac's latest mortgage rate report, the interest rate on a 30-year, fixed rate mortgage averaged 6.40% last week. That is an increase of 0.25% year-over-year.Doreen Woo Ho, president of Wells Fargo's consumer credit group, said that "while rates are higher than a year ago, they are still low by historical standards."She continued to point out that, surprisingly, younger homeowners are the ones that tend to From both directions, this separationist attitude is inappropriate and against the Universal Law of Acceptance, which recognizes both the right and the responsibility of every individual to live their life according to their own personal truth. We can only bridge the gap if we are willing to move beyond our emotional need to feel that 'we are right and they are wrong' and come to recognize and respect the positive aspects of all belief systems - including Christianity.Whether you're a drywall man or you run a heavy machinery business, the tools that help get the big jobs done must be in good condition or business will go south. Buying used construction equipment can be a big gamble, but oftentimes businesses just starting out cannot afford brand new machines. Smart used buys are out there; they just have to be found.Although it's certainly true some used buys aren't worth the powder to blow them up, with careful and smart shopping great machines can be found. The key to buying the best used equipment to make sure business goes smoothly is to do some investigating before making a purchase. There's no reason why well cared for machines that are passed on through used sales can't get the job done right. It's just a question of finding the machines that have been treated properly and maintained as they should be. Remember, many businesses upgrade machinery on a regular basis and the pieces of equipment they replace oftentimes are in great shape. The trick is finding these machines! Before buying used equipment:* Determine your exact needs. If you're launching a lawn care company, for example, do you really need that stump grinder on a daily basis? Would a rental be smarter and money be better spent on heavy-duty mowing tractors? Should you be opening a business that needs warehouse equipment, a good forklift might come in handy, but is it necessary to get the biggest one coming out of the gate? If we truly want to create a world where people live together in harmony, then we must begin with the basics, and one of those basics is not only understanding but accepting belief systems that are different from our own.If your new to the internet marketing world, you might not understand how vitally important choosing the right keywords for your website is. Most people who put up a website (designers included) don't realize that the right keywords on your website will improve your search engine rankability. When a person goes to a search engine like Google or others, they type in a word or phrase that they want information on. This is what we call a keyword. For instance if the person was looking to buy a new golf club, he might type in 'golf clubs' or 'golf shop' or another variation. So if you were a golf store you would want to have those and other related keywords within your site.So what if you understand the importance of keywords but don't do any keyword research? Instead you simply think about your product or service and come up with keywords that you think people will search for? At first this might sound like a good idea but in reality you risk losing many potential customers. What do you think happens if you pick a bunch of words or phrases that people aren't actually searching for? Or you don't think of all the hundreds of other keywords that relate to your product or service and therefore lose potential clients? You might have the best of intentions when thinking of your own keywords, but it's better to do a thorough keyword search before beginning any website project. There are a few different places that you can perform these keywo Because we have chosen to be a part of a culture in which Christianity IS the primary spiritual foundation, it is our responsibility to know enough truth - as opposed to personal expression - about Christianity to deny or confirm its place in our spiritual foundation. Too often, we have allowed extremists to stand in the way of our personal pursuit of spirituality through the Christian belief system; our emotional response to those who judge anyone who thinks differently than they do is a major obstacle to peaceful co-existence. Both factors say, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Both factors DO judge the other as 'wrong.' On both sides, we are not living according to what we say we believe: our actions and our attitudes are in direct conflict with our words. There is a common bond that neither side recognizes: there is no such things as "a Christian," anymore than there is such a thing as "a new-ager." The strength of the Christian religion (and 1.5 billion adherents world-wide - one in three adults in the world - DOES constitute strength!) lies not in a passive acceptance of doctrine as it has been taught by the Church over the centuries, but in a continual need on the part of the followers to break away from the predominating belief system and 'find and follow their own truth.' Depending on the source you turn to, there are between 200 and 1000 Christian sects registered in this country alone. Such diversity in beliefs has not been accomplished passively, and the reception to the changes advocated by each budding denomination was similar to - but much more intense than - the reception being given by the 'core Christians' to those free thinkers who are seeking a new truth that will, inevitably, threaten the position of the core. It has been - and will continue to be - an ongoing cycle, a cycle that is not exclusive to the Christian faith. Every major religion in the world experiences this cycle, in which a basic truth on which the religion is built serves as the cataly
