The cut and run Russian generals however were not defeated they had repositioned themselves. They counter attacked and surrounded German forces into what we might call a green zone. As The Russian counter attack pressed on and as the German perimeter shrank while Russian intelligence about troop strength and positions grew with the aid of local civilians. While the Germans were effectively blinded. But the Germans still had air superiority!

General Paulus radioed they would need 750 tons of supplies a day flown and the Luftwaffe assured him that it could be done. The Luftwaffe’s prime enemy was the Russian weather our own green zone doesn’t have it’s own airfield. While the US Air force can easily supply the airfield if you lose control of the streets how do you get supplies from the airfield to the green zone? The hostile streets of Baghdad twist for sixteen kilometers from the airfield to the green zone. Of key importance of supply is fuel to keep all the high tech wizardry operating as well as water and food. German forces in Stalingrade were eventually broken into three pockets unable to be resupplied, ours apparently will be two pockets with the same failure reason.

It is the arrogance of power more than military strength, which leads to such debacles, Waterloo, Dien Bien Phu, and Stalingrad and soon Baghdad as well. The belief that either by superior technology or training can overcome a native fighters love of home.

The overestimation of one’s own power and the deprecation of your enemies’ powers despite the arguments by those paid to know such things. When the end comes and come it will, let there be no doubt where the blame rests.
