The entry requirements for the Navy Seals are rigorous, and the training is even more difficult. An applicant must be male, and an active-duty member of the Navy with adequate preparatory training. (Chaplains and clerks need not apply.) The applicant must be twenty-eight years old or younger, and must have vision that no worse than at least 20/40 in one eye and 20/70, and is correctable to 20/20 without any color blindness. •Run 1.5 miles in boots and long pants in less than 11.5 minutes
While the Navy Seals cover every possible angle of attack, their specialty is water. During training, the new recruits will learn and be required to complete:
•a fifty meter swim underwater
•tie a knot underwater
•take a drown proofing test
•take a basic lifesaving test
•swim twelve hundred meters in a pool with fins in forty-five minutes
•swim one mile in a bay with fins in fifty minutes
•swim one mile in the ocean with fins in fifty minutes
•swim one and a half miles in the ocean with fins in seventy minutes
•swim two miles in the ocean with fins in ninety-five minutes
