Despite Kyoto and dire warnings from scientists, politicians have been slow to respond to the growing threat posed by climate change. Are we sleep walking toward catastrophe? Some like Professor James Lovelock, in his book The Revenge of Gaia, argue that it may already be too late.

"We are responsible and will suffer the consequences: as the century progresses the temperature will rise eight degrees centigrade in temperate regions and five degrees in the tropics ... "

As a society we need to push for the facts on environmental problems and insist that our elected representatives act responsibly. This is no longer a talking point - the case has now been clearly established that we could well be heading toward environmental Armageddon over the course of the century unless a concerted trans-national effort is made to tackle the problem with energy and commitment.
