Why Logo Is That Important
Among the first things an entrepreneur would do when he starts his business is to get a logo designed. A well-thought, well-designed logo can speak volumes of your brand and image. Logo design is really that important. Today I got a big surprise at a popular shopping mall located along the East Coast of Singapore).I have not stepped into that mall for ages, and was duly impressed with the revamp. It certainly looked much younger and more hip. Then, I got into the lift. There was this large poster and I was casually browsing it when I saw their logo.I felt that the simple "P.P." logo design (with non-descript font arranged in a boring side-by-side format) was completely incompatible with the ‘feel’ of the mall! I guess I was staring at it a tad too long because a pair of young brothers, around 6 - 8 years old, and their parents started to look at it too. Below is the brow-raising conversation that haunted me the rest of that afternoon:Young Brother: P. P. What is P.P? Sound like going toilet to wee wee (giggle) Older Brother: No, it means no pthui pthui (spitting).You could dismiss that conversation as unintelligent babble of two young kids who could not know better. But you would not walk away from the adults’ remarks without learning one or two things about the importance of logo design.Mum : Just 2 “P” only, so simple. Must be in-house job. Cheapskate. Wonder why they use green and blue? Made people think they copy Standard Chartered Bank. Dad : Oh ya? The car park was in green and blue. I thought it was because of Stan Chart. Customer Service in Auto Services is NOT Offending Women Customers
In the auto services industry there are generally more women customers than men. This is because men will typically do some of the auto services and preventive maintenance on their car themselves, whereas women customers will have someone else like an auto shop do the services for them.Even women who have men around the house will sometimes have a man take their car to the auto service shop for them. Still, even with that there are still more women customers by about 15% more.Needless to say customer service in the auto services industry is about pleasing your women customers and when they fill out reader service cards or customer service surveys you need to listen to what they say.Women customers would like to see more women at the facility and not a bunch of guys gawking at them. Women customers would also like to see clean bathrooms and a clean waiting area. Women customers do not like to see trash around the facility or around the landscaping.Women customers do not wish to be over-sold or treated in a condescending manner. Women customers do not like greasy fingerprints on their car when you are done. Women customers would like to have some women's type magazines in the waiting area and not ones, which are two years old.Women customers also like to have an awards program or a discount if they are regular customers. Please trust me when I tell you that all these things are comments that I have read on our own customer surveys for our auto detailing shops. Please consider all this in 2006.

Xhanging a brand name requires a lot of energy. OpenBC, the networking company, has taken this mayor step to change their (brand) name. From now on, they are called XING.Improvement.The X as the first letter of the brand seems more than a reasonable choice. Networking is the exchanging element in productivity. There is no other letter that points that out. Exactly. It is a short and therefore easy name to remember. Long names require practice before you remember them, and there is no time to loose if you want to change your brand name. It sounds also strong. XING. Like a Chinese Giant cooperation. That is my first association with this name.Change.There is – as I understand it – no way back. The old name openBC will leave the stage forever. This means that the new name will introduce a new culture.Culture.OpenBC, now XING, is much more than LinkedIn an international and multicultural organization. The first things you will observe when you surf to the www.openbc.com homepage are the little flags symbolizing the different cultures.Acceptance.To me the new name sounds still a bit strange. I feel that I do not automatically accept the new name. This probably requires some time. Instead of seeing XING.COM, my attention is lead to XING.KONG, or King Kong.
