How I did it
I was doing a teleseminar on article writing. This one particular woman was quite convinced she could never write an article. I tried to play with her belief a bit but I could see we were going no where.
Bless her heart, she was very committed to the belief that she could never write.
Since I'm a recovering marriage and family therapist, those skills still kick sometimes so I knew to pull back a bit. I began to ask her about her niche, who she worked with and how she marketed her services. Then I asked her what kind of suggestions she would typically give to her clients. She was able to tell me several. I asked her to list for me the 7 most frequent suggestions she used. As she did so, I asked her to write them down so I would not forget.
Then I asked her to tell me some more about each tip and to write that down too. Although it seems rather obvious right now what I was doing, she either never caught on or never let me know she caught on.
