In Armageddon (1998), the meteor will destroy the Earth. In Lord of the Rings, it is Middle Earth and Men that Sauron wishes to destroy and Frodo's SHire that will cease to exit.

The Township has certain characteristics, including:

A Good Father. This is the altruistic father figure, often the leader of the Elders. In Superman (1978), Jor-El is the Good Father.

Shape Shifter. This is an infiltrator secretly working on behalf of the Antagonism and is high up on the hierarchy, but rarely at the top of it. In Battlestar Galactica, Baltar is the Shape Shifter. In A Time to Kill (1996), the cop is a member of the KKK.
