    The Ordinary World can simply be environment. It is not unusual to have shots of the city, the Hero's workplace, home or similar. In War of the Worlds (2005), we meet Ray Ferrier at work and at home.

    But the Ordinary World is also representative of the Hero and thus can take various forms, including:

    Idyllic. Unwilling Heroes often live in idyllic worlds until an unbalance occurs and forces them on their Journey. In Lord of the Rings, Frodo et al live in an idyllic Shire. In The Squid and the Whale (2006), both Bernard and Joan live together until infidelity and divorce separates them.

    Repressive. Willing Heroes often live in a world that limits their capabilities or potential. In An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Zach yearns to escape Pop. In Star Wars (1977),
