People do this because they think that it will make them look more reputable and they think it makes their website look "pretty". This is fine for a website that sells numerous products but it should not be this way for a site that is selling a downloadable product.

    If you are trying to sell a product especially a single product you should not have more than two links on your sales page. A link to your privacy policy which will basically say that you will not share or sell their information and a link to a page with your contact information.

    The less options they have to get away from your sales page the more of a chance there is that they will buy your product.

    2) Tell a story in your copy - People love stories. The human heart is designed to get caught up in stories. Your sales letter should tell your prospect a story. Tell them how you were once in their shoes but because of the information that you now know and would like to give them you have been set free or you have achieved your dream or whatever kind of story fits to your product.

    3) Fonts make a world of difference - Believe it or not there are certain fonts that your prospects will be drawn to without them even knowing it. The size, color and font style can have a huge impact on whether your visitor stays or leaves your sales page.

    Tests have show that the Tahoma font in a dark red that is bold and around size 16 is the best for headlines. Tests also show that the rest of your text will be soothing to the eye if the Georgia font is used. You should also use a color slightly lighter than black for any text besides the headline.

    Last but definitely not least, you should use the bold, underline and italicize features for important parts of your text. Do not use them for entire paragraphs just phrases. Using these features where appropriate will keep the visitor interested.
