Renewing Customer Loyalty elf: Do I need a new product? Do I need to look for other ways to sell my products? If I make these changes will I need additional funds? If I need funds should I get a parnter or find an investor? If I increase my business will I need to hire someone? Once you have answered these questions, then take the steps you have come up with and put them on your To Do list.Every business loses customers, but not many do much about getting them back. And that is a big mistake. Studies show that the average business looses 20 percent of its customer base each year. Here’s what that means in practical terms: For example, let’s say your business has 700 customers that buy repeatedly from you during the year and each customer spends an average of $300 a year. If you loose 20 percent of them ( one hundred and forty), you’ll loose $42,000 a year. That’s a lot of money to make up with new customers. The longer you keep a customer the more he or she is worth to you. In part, because it takes a lot more money to acquire a new customer than it does to keep an existing one. In fact, businesses that are able to consistently keep the majority of their customer base are usually the ones that have increased profits year after year. T Managing Change - Air Cover Those of us in home based and small businesses are in effect selling our product. So becoming an effective salesperson is very important. Remember, however, that selling is not the only thing you do. Don’t forget to use your time wisely.Imagine you’re landing on the beach in war and I guess we could say you are like those poor unfortunate souls, the Cuban Freedom Fighters (if you’re old enough to remember that one) who landed down there during the Bay of Pigs and were slaughtered because in the last minute, maybe hours, President Kennedy withdrew his support. In the change wars going in across the land people aren’t killed but careers are, everyday. Let me explain the connection. When you start a change war you have to have a team and you have to give that team support. Every leader of course says they will, but in reality, just as in the Bay of Pigs, it is often withdrawn at a critical moment.A case in point was a few years ago when I was Vice President of one of America’s high flying companies my boss started a change war. Now the politics in this tech giant (who thought they had no po What you want to do to help you move forward is to: Plan and prioritize. If the majority of your day is spent with your customers, you will need some down time. You need to have time to look at the trends in your business. By this I mean go over your customer records, see where patterns are, what changes you need to make and then set up a plan to implement those changes. If you spend a little time at the end of each day going over what transpired during the day and set up your plan and schedule for the next day, you will be much better prepared for the next day and the subsequent days. At the beginning of each week, take a look at where you want your business to be and make plans on how to get there. If something you are doing isn’t working, make changes. However, then you need to give those changes time to work. If they don’t work, change them again. Most important is that you spend the time each week to figure out what your business needs are and what your needs are, till you come up with what works best for you, your business and your customers. If they don’t work, change them again. Most important is that you spend the time each week to figure out what your business needs are and what your needs are, till you come up with what works best for you, your business and your customers.Recently a franchise buyer who works in a government agency contacted our franchise company for opportunities. In doing so he told us that civil servants were hard working and honest and that politicians were bad. He told us how he had put together a team of folks who could run a franchised outlet because they had experience in government running things.I laughed because government doesn’t run anything very well. Well they are good at running some things such as running people around in circles at the Department of Motor Vehicles or running small companies out of business because of some inane regulation and form that someone forgot or had no clue they had to fill out in the first place. My thoughts were, why on Earth would I want to allow anyone who has experience in the government to be part of our company? Once you have answered these questions, then take the steps you have come up with and put them on your To Do list. The great Claude Hopkins (Author of Scientific Advertising) once said, “Platitudes and generalities roll off the human understanding like water from a duck. They leave no impression whatever.” To say, "Best in the world," "Lowest price in existence," etc. are at best simply claiming the expected. But superlatives of that sort are usually damaging. They suggest looseness of expression, a tendency to exaggerate, a careless truth. They lead readers to discount all the statements that you make.--- A Dog & Pony ShowIt’s true that people accept a certain license in ‘sales talk.’ A person may say, "Highest quality" without seeming a liar, although you realise other brands are just as good. We expect a sales person to ‘sell’ and we excuse some enthusiastic exaggeration. It’s for that reason general statements count for very little. And a person inc It is very important that you have a calendar and that you set deadlines. Your calendar can be paper or electronic. The most important thing is that you use it. Put all your goals, the steps needed to get to your goals, and deadlines to meet those steps in your calendar. Remember, if you use your calendar wisely it will help you accomplish what you need to and help you to get things done efficiently and on time. To show you how your calendar can work for you, let’s set up a marketing campaign. First, you want to schedule deadlines for everything that needs to be done before you can even start the campaign. First set a deadline of September 4 to re-price all your current products. By the 12th of September contact the media you will be using for rate information along with their readership information, and what their ad copy requirements are. In our example the media would be newspapers and magazines. However, you can also do the same for television, billboard, etc. By the end of September (the 30th) make up your ad budget for the year. You will want to determine how much it will cost you on a monthly basis, so you can have an accurate determination of your monthly expenses. By the middle of October (let’s say the 15th) set a deadline for your ad copy and any art so that you can meet their deadline. Let’s say in our example it is the 1st of the month. So that would be November 1st. The above example illustrates how to take a large project and break it down into smaller projects and to set deadlines for them so that you can get the whole project done. As any successful business owner will tell you, of paramount importance is to keep in touch with customers. You can call your regular customers often, perhaps every six weeks or every month. Or if calling is not feasible in your business, keep in contact by sending post cards, flyers, or a special announcement. Be sure to keep track of when you last talked with each individual, or were in contact with them. Also, if possible, make some comment that personalizes the call, or written co
