Yesterday after an 8 hour workday my daughter wanted to go to a fund raiser at Chucky-Cheese. Chucky-Cheese is what my generation called a video game arcade. Normally after work the last thing I want to do is go somewhere else. I started to think about why I felt that way, and then a light went off. My day job (more so the commute) has got me so drained that we save quality family outings for vacation and weekends.

So my wife and I took the kids to Chucky-Cheese and it was amazing how empty it was, well maybe not. If you’re currently a “working class citizen” you may or may not realize that everything you plan revolves around whether your job will allow you the time. Simple family outings have to either be planned on the weekend or during your vacation time. Very few people participate in family activities after work unless they have a home based business.

For a 2 parent household like mine, after work (and school) activities are usually regulated to getting the kids settled which includes but is not limited to changing clothes, cleaning rooms, homework, dinner, baths, and by that time your getting ready for the next day. Of course all of this depends on how old your children are but my point is that your day job gets your best hours.

I want to be able to work from home, call my own shots and spend more time with my family especially while our children are young. I’m sure you have realized as we age time appears to move much faster so weeks fly by in a flash. The saying around the office at the end of the week is “TGIF” or Thank God It’s Friday. If you do not have a family your mode of thinking may be totally different but at some point you will realize that you’re spending a good part of your time working and a small part enjoying life. Sure, we all should be thankful to wake up to another day (I am) but waking up can’t be the end all.

While looking at Modular Homes on the Internet a co-worker of mine who is a huge pessimist asked if I could “afford a home like that”. I told him that my plan was in 3-4 years to have a Modular Home built that would give my family and me the space we need to spread out. On the other hand I advised that I was satisfied with the home we have now. The important part of this conversation was that I had a plan and most people that know me know I’m not just talking about it I’m putting the “wheels in motion” to achieve my short and long term goals. You too should have a plan.

Most people would like to quit their day jobs if they found a profitable business to start. With a highly demanding day job you have to be very creative to find time to start a home based business. You can slowly but surely disconnect yourself from the rate race of your day job.
