What builds your million-dollar company is laying it out so that people know what they need for success.

Now here's the other part: the control part, and this is big with most ADD folks. Well here's the thing: Think a little like the devil's advocate.

What if that key person, in this example let's say a finance person, decides to quit tomorrow or has a death or a debilitating injury or basically can't do the job? That's what causes most ADD people to just absolutely clutch. So here was the rest of the instruction that you should give. Say, "I would like you to document every

Medical Billing - The Programmer's Nightmare
We take so much for granted in this world. We expect everything we buy to work perfectly and when it doesn't, we throw a tantrum. Well, can you imagine what the programmer who creates your medical billing software feels like when he fixes one bug and then another one pops up? What follows is a true story, which just goes to prove that the truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction.A medical billing software company was creating a new software package to bill UB-92 claims. Up until this point in time, they
Do you have delegation-itis? It is a control type of a fear that makes people with ADD think, How do I delegate something that I don't' know how to do? How do I tell somebody what I want when I don't get it?

Okay. So let us ask you this: Do you know who Jack Welch is?

Jack Welch was the president of GE for many, many years and years. He did a turnaround, he build that corporation globally, he's written several books on leadership and winning. Now he's the head honcho of his organization. Do you think that he knows how to get postage in the postage meter in the mailroom? Probably not, right? Do you think that if he needs to get postage in the postage meter in the mailroom that he can get it done without having to do it himself?

Of course he can. Right? So it's the exact same thing that needs to happen with you and your business. Now this requires a little bit of a flip-around of thinking. Because as entrepreneurs our biggest fear is losing control, and this is especially true, if you have ADD. so there are a couple of things that need to be put into place so that you can hire people that are smarter than you are about doing the things that you don't like to do, and giving you the end result that you need.

So, if Jack Welch walks down to the mailroom and says, "Mail this," does he really care how many people have to touch it and how the postage gets into the meter and whether it goes out at the 2 p. m. or the 4:00 p.m. run, or whatever? All he really cares about its that the recipient is going to receive the mail. Correct?

Of course! So the question then becomes, "How do you do this in your business?" The hinge point of failure for 99.9 percent of all businesses out there is the owners' inability to get out of the way and let the business grow.

Now, here's the thing. Some ADD people like to know all the inner workings of things, because they enjoy knowing. But usually they aren't as interested in the inner working of things that sends them into ADD boredom. So, you might see some ADD people interested in building web pages, for instance, but you may never see the same people try to figure out how QuickBooks runs a report. They don't care now that happens; they just want to know if they have money in their accounts. So they need to hire people that are smart with QuickBooks, and tell them what they want the end result to be.

Just Do it - Jump-Start Your Career
Just Do It! Just Take Your Career Step…Everyone admires those who can just do it. That’s why the Nike ads were so successful--they resonated with people. Many of us at some time or another will complain of feeling “stuck”. We say we’re not ready; we need to do more research or get another degree or more experience. We blame our parents, ourselves, the job market. We complain about all those things we still haven’t done and yet we postpone taking action. When will we be ready to just do it?When I lived in

    Clean Sweep
Hey - how about those White Sox. Their well is dry for 88 years, all the way back to World War I, 1917 to be exact. Then - Kazaaaam, they sweep the series in four straight games. There are a lot of reasons they won this year. They have a great manager and in case you don't follow baseball, his name is Ozzie Guillen. When the game was over the 41 year old manager didn't go jumping up and down with his players, he said, "I have to respect the other team." A class act!For the White Sox - the winning d

Say, "I would like you to document every step of the process--how we make deposits, how we run reports, what you need to send to me and when, who you speak with to get the information, how you do the reconciliation," and so on, every step of the way. That way, if you lose your key people, you'll know how the finance department runs.

The truth is that people leave, and you have to be able to run your company, regardless of who is there and who isn't. That may sound kind of ruthless, but it's not meant to be that way. You really hope that people are groomed and just stay forever, and hopefully they will. And if they don't, you cannot run your entire life on a hope and a prayer that somebody will be there tomorrow. You have to be able to have a way to consult the manual and figure it out.

So as you're working through your business delegating things that you don't fully understand to other people, don't let it send your ADD brain spiraling. When you get something that works, write it down. And the cool part is that you can delegate the documentation, too. It's not just an ADD-friendly solution; it's just good business.
