Why some Businesses are Playing with Fire
Small and medium sized businesses throughout the UK are risking not being compliant with the new fire prevention laws that came into effect on 1st October 2006.Virtually all non-domestic premises in England and Wales are affected by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO) 2005. The RRO states that anyone responsible for premises must carry out a fire safety risk assessment or face possible prosecution.A survey carried out by the Federation of Small Businesses in March highlighted the potential problems. A spokesman for the FSB commented, “We carried out a survey in March 2006 which showed 59% of f

Follow the guidelines below and, above all, let your customers know how you have implemented their suggestions. Eight out of ten will come back to see if you have followed their advice. Keep surveys simple and easy to read. Do not get too technical or make the survey long and boring. Ask close-ended or direct questions as much as possible. Instead of asking, for example, "What products woul

In my work as coach, trainer and consultant, I have observed the changes in the world of work and the impact on the individuals stress, satisfaction and productivity.

In the 1980s organizations focused on quality. It was about doing the best for customers and providing quality products and services. The 1990s moved to the era of speed. We are asking to do more, faster. Faster would be possible if organizations were not in constant change, and change will be a fact of life in the 21st century. Career Planning: Great Job But Can't Afford to Move
    Q. I live in a wonderful house in the Midwest. Recently a recruiter asked if I would consider a new job with a move to Southern California. The salary would be higher but the cost of living -- ouch! Should I go on the interview?A. Let's do the easy part first. I almost always recommend going on the interview. Of course, do not jeopardize your current job or current clients. But you have little to lose. Occasionally you will be considered for other jobs in the company. You may be able to negotiate a telecommute option. Your interviewer may know of other opportunities in more desirable locations. And n

Job Interviews - Six of The Biggest Mistakes Made
To start, the first mistake is that you plain don't listen. Employers see this as an eye into your future at the company. You must make sure that the answer you are giving is really for the question that was asked. This is truly a test by the employer to see if you are going to be able to listen to his demands. The second is that you are trying to take lead. Mainly this will make you seem arrogant. Companies these days are really looking for someone who can work on a team. If you keep saying "I" this and "I" that, they won't see you as a team player. Instead use the pronoun "We" when talking about past experience
and becoming more demanding. You need to change with it. But how?

Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Edison, Franklin D. Roosevelt, General George Patton, Robin Williams, Walt Disney, Janet Reno, Neil Cavuto, and Michael J. If these individuals were not allowed to contribute their talents and expertise to our world, how would that affect our world as we know it? The answer to that question would require a philosopher with thoughts much loftier than mine. The idea however; is important to explore. We must be grateful to a s

The changes in the world of work were not just observed by my work; these changes have also been written about in the leadership and management publications.

Peter Drucker has been the organizational and leadership expert since the 1950’s. His early works indicated that the success for organizations was in establishing an efficient organizational structure and then hiring individuals to meet the needs of the structure. This made life much simpler for employees as they were clear on job expectations and how they operated in the organizational structure.

In Drucker’s current book Management Challenges for the 21st Century (HarperCollins, May 1999) he acknowledges that the old paradigm no longer works. Due to the realities of the marketplace, organizations need to be fluid in their structure and ready to reorganize to meet the economic needs of the organization. Instead, he indicates that success for future organizations is to have flexible employees, ready to change as the needs of the organization changes. Drucker states, “Success in the kno
