    How to Start a Retail Supermarket
    Everyone needs food in order to survive. And while many people have had to turn to restaurants and fast food in order to get food on the run, the retail supermarket industry is still thriving. People like to eat and they need to eat. However, getting into the retail supermarket business can be difficult, so here are some basic tips to get you started.First of all, learn about the customers that you want to provide foods to. Are they looking for low prices or are they looking for a certain type of food – i.e. organic or local produce? Determining the kinds of customers you will cater to can help to limit the capital that you have to spend up front as well as the costs for buying products that you might not need. If you already have a location or area in mind, you might want to send out simple surveys to see what people are looking for and where they might like to see it. Include a discount coupon or some other freebie in order to get surveys returned to you – people like to be compensated for their time and their opinion.Once you’ve determined the kind of supermarket that your customers want, you can begin to look at possible locations. People don’t like to drive too far for their food, so keeping stories in central locations is best, though you also don’t want to be somewhere that might cause traffic to become troublesome for locals as well.     Negative Feedback Is An Opportunity
    Most of us have difficulty with negative feedback. We tend to become angry, defensive, or hurt when people offer negative feedback. We blame the bearer of the information. Many leaders avoid it altogether, because it strikes at one of our most prized possessions--our image of self. We like to see ourselves as effective, skilled, and capable both with people and task. Negative feedback is an opportunity that should be welcomed and valued as a great gift.It is unlikely we can prevent ourselves from experiencing negative emotion when people give us negative feedback, yet we need to welcome it anyway. Negative information is better than no information. If my people are unhappy, if my customers are unhappy, or if those closest to me are unhappy--it is better that I know than not know. At least if I know I can do something about it.In fact, as leaders we should welcome negative feedback and even encourage it. On one hand negative feedback is potentially hurtful and upsetting. On the other hand it is an opportunity. Complaints and grievances against us are opportunities to reflect, clarify who we are, and to envision something new and better.Here are some ideas on how to turn negative information into positive opportunities:1. Accept it. This is how others see you. It is not wrong or right; bad or good; it just is. Refuse to take it personally. It is information. How do you want to best use this information to help others, yourself, and your organization (or family)?2. Become a listener. Invite information from those who have spoken negativ
    The values landscape of our nation is changing, and with it your personal values landscape is changing as well.  What does this mean and what does it have to do with midlife?

    Researcher Dr. Paul Ray says that the predominant values set held by Americans has been one he terms Modernist, with roots in the Renaissance.  Modernists presently represent 88 million U.S. adults, or 47% of the population, but the numbers of Modernists are shrinking as those who hold these values are increasingly leaving this subculture and choosing instead the values of one of the other two subcultures ray has found, the Heartlanders (representing traditionalist values) and the Culture Creatives (representing  newly emerging integral values, never before seen in human history).  Heartlanders represent 29% of the population, or 56 million adults, while Culture Creatives represent 24% of the population, or 44 million adults.

    Those with a Modernist perspective tend to value religious and lifestyle pluralism, career achievement stepping stones, consumerism, a “winning” lifestyle, capitalism; tolerate societal fragmentism; and welcome the technologization of life.   Many Heartlander values are the polar opposites of Modernist values:  simplified and unified lifestyle options; an emphasis on putting families, not careers, first; buying in accordance with budget and values; a family-oriented lifestyle; a deemphasis on individualization and capitalism; a great desire to heal the fragmentations of American society; and a dramatically lessened interest in and dependence on technology.
     
    Now, what about the Culture Creatives?  Who are they and what do they believe?  Ray names this subculture this way because this is the group that is coming up with the new ideas that are transforming society as we know it.  Culture Creative values tend to be person-focused and environment friendly and include:  psychology; spiritual life; self-actualization; self-expression; mastering new ideas; social concerns; and women’s issues.

    Dr. Ray sees American society as approaching what he terms a “Great Divide” in which the mainstream Modernist subculture is shrinking as members move instead into Heartlander or Culture Creative camps.  Midlife acts as your own personal “Great Divide” and challenges you to choose your own values.  Are you a Modernist?  Will you remain one?  Or are you really more of a Heartlander and just beginning to recognize yourself?  Or are you a Culture Creative who never before could name what you knew you were becoming?  What about your present family and friends?  Or your family of origin?  Or the people in your faith community?  Are you surrounded by likeminded others or those with contrasting values?

    Review the informal lists above and see which subculture feels most like you.  Consider reflecting on the questions raised in the last paragraph to help you explore your own personal values landscape.  If you are surrounded by supporters, then no matter which category you live in, the changes ahead will be easier for you.  If, on the other hand, you are surrounded by those of other subcultures, then not only the societal changes ahead but your own midlife changes will be more chaotic as well.

    Most critical of all, though, make sure you incorporate your Modernist, Heartlander, or Culture Creative values into your resume summary, cover/follow-up/thank you letters, and interview responses.  By doing so, you dramatically increase the odds that you'll end up working next to likeminded others, which, in turn, should assure you some measure of career satisfaction over the long-term.

    The Brown Paper Nightmare
    Wrapping packages in brown paper makes the package unacceptable for UPS shipping. The Post Office may charge you a "non-machineable surcharge" for using brown paper on your box.What is the problem with wrapping brown paper around a box?1. Brown paper is subject to tearing. Because UPS, as well as the Post Office, has automated sorting facilities with long conveyor belts in the "hubs," your package may be moving along the conveyor belt with packages up to 150 pounds right next to it. If your package gets banged along the way, the paper is subject to being torn. If this continues to happen along the belt, UPS might have a box at the end of the line with no brown paper wrap, and therefore no label either. They will not know where to ship the box and it ends up in the lost and found pile.2. People often think that brown paper adds strength to the box. It does not. You might try to wrap a shoe box in brown paper, thinking it will make the trip with that outer protection. See explanation 1 above for why this is not a good idea.3. People think that if the box says something like "Huggie Diapers" on the outside that it will interfere with the sorting and delivery process. The markings on the package are irrelevant to the sorting system. The only important part of the box is the shipping label. As long as there are no other shipping labels (i.e., from the box being shipped previously) on the outside of the box, or any other bar codes, there will not be any issues with sorting and delivering your package. Simply cover up or completely mark out any bar

    One of the most common problems that medical billing personnel run into is printing of medical forms. In this installment of medical billing and troubleshooting tips, we're going to cover the most common types of form problems and how to fix them with as little pain as possible. Most of these you will be able to do without any outside help. However, in some cases, you will need a forms expert.On of the most common forms problems when doing medical billing is that the form doesn't line up right. In other words, the printing either prints a line above or below where it is supposed to. Most forms have a marker on them that shows you where to set the form in the printer itself, if you're using dot matrix printing, which is the most common. In most cases, the problem is simply that the form wasn't lined up correctly to begin with. By simply raising or lowering the form in the printer, the problem is usually resolved quickly.But what about when the form is lined up correctly and the information is still printing a line above or below where it is supposed to. In this case, the problem is usually with the form itself. Each form has to be programmed by the software. The software pulls each field from a particular place in the system and then prints it on the form where it needs to go. Sometimes, the programming is simply wrong.
