Common sense has apparently taken a leave from our society because we now have to hear from total strangers that we should not spend more than we take in. My fellow church member had us all raise our hand if we owed money to anyone. Naturally 95% of the congregation has a mortgage of some kind including my wife and I. (We paid off a two story 3300 Sq.Ft. home in 1998 after making payment for 11 years.) We built a one story retirement home two years ago and have a small mortgage on our current property but rest assured my wife will have this paid off in a few years. No, I am not a trust fund kid nor do I make an exorbitant salary. We practice common sense in my household meaning if we do not have the money for something we do not spend it. Both of my children adhere to this policy because it is the way they were taught. Our get rich quite economy combined with the get it now philosophy of consumer spending has evidently blinded a majority of consumers. How do we convince our fellow citizens of the fact that we have no right to spend or to collect meaningless possessions just because we want them? We have no right to an expensive vacation just because they are offered or because one of our friends took one, we have no right to health care, jobs, and housing or freedom if we do not pay the price required securing these sought after things. Unfortunately, one never ending truth remains......if you insist on looking for expensive toys, vacations and houses there will be someone somewhere who will help you find more debt than you can handle.
