Have you ever had a job that you hated, while a coworker loved the same job? Come on, be honest. Maybe you are in that situation now. I’ve been there. Did they look at you like you were crazy when you admitted that you didn’t, in fact, share their passion? There’s just no way explaining to these people why you feel the way you do, they’ll never understand. They love it too much. And a tiny part of you hates them for it.
People who love their jobs have this unstoppable passion, and just can’t imagine doing anything else. And do you want to know a secret? They aren’t in it for the money. Most couldn’t care less.
One study has found four things in common with job lovers: competence, variety, independence, and challenge. Each job offered all four of these elements to the person doing it. Note that none of these four are money. I personally find this interesting, because up until about a year and a half ago I was sure that anyone who loved their job loved it because they were making a good living doing it.
